Listen to article

Samsung is set to introduce its next-generation foldable, the Galaxy Z Flip 7, featuring the in-house Exynos 2500 chipset in most regions, including South Korea and India. This marks the first time an Exynos processor powers a Galaxy Z series device, signaling a significant shift in Samsung’s chipset strategy.

Exynos 2500: Samsung’s First 3nm Smartphone Processor

The Exynos 2500 is Samsung’s inaugural 3nm smartphone processor, developed by its System LSI division and manufactured using Samsung Foundry’s second-generation 3nm process node. The chip is rumored to feature a 10-core CPU configuration; 1x Cortex-X925 core at 3.3GHz, 2x Cortex-A725 cores at 2.75GHz, 5x Cortex-A725 cores at 2.36GHz, and 2x Cortex-A520 cores at 1.8GHz

Additionally, it is expected to include the Xclipse 950 GPU based on AMD’s RDNA 3.5 architecture and 16MB of L3 cache.

While the Exynos 2500 will power the Galaxy Z Flip 7 in many markets, Samsung is likely to equip the device with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset in regions such as the United States, Canada, and China. This approach aligns with Samsung’s historical practice of varying chipsets by region.

The choice of Exynos 2500 for the Z Flip 7 may be influenced by thermal performance considerations. Reports suggest that the Snapdragon 8 Elite runs warmer in ultra-thin devices, making the cooler-running Exynos 2500 a more suitable option for the slim form factor of the Z Flip 7.

Expected Launch Date and Features

The Galaxy Z Flip 7 is anticipated to launch in early July 2025 during Samsung’s Galaxy Unpacked event. Rumored specifications include a 6.85-inch main display, a 4-inch cover display, a 50MP primary camera, and a 4,300mAh battery. The device is also expected to run One UI 8 based on Android 16.

With the introduction of the Exynos 2500 in the Galaxy Z Flip 7, Samsung demonstrates its commitment to advancing its in-house chipset technology and diversifying its hardware offerings across global markets.
