Listen to article

Almost two month after MediaTek announced the world’s first “True Octa-core” processor, and lambasted the Samsung’s chip in the process, the South Korean firm is back with a vengeance which comes in the form of the revamped Exynos 5 with HMP technology.

Unlike the previous build, Samsung’s newly announced ARM-based SoC is now able to utilize all of its eight processor cores thanks to a solution they coined Heterogeneous Multi-Processing.

The engine still follows the same big.LITTE setup which consist four Cortex-A15 processors (big) and a quartet of Cortex-A7 (LITTLE) chips. Based on the task at hand, Samsung’s new HMP-equipped processor can either fire on all cylinders or go mellow and let the little ones handle simple tasks.

According to Samsung, the new and improved Exynos 5 Octa Soc is set to makes its debut on the last quarter of this year.

Octa core cpus do look good on benchmarks as it fully utilizes all existing cores, other than that, they are pretty much useless in everything.

…like you, useless. :P

Don’t just judge yet, apps and games that will utilize those cores at max is yet to come… whereas you’ll still be useless :D
