One of the most fun parts of road trips with friends is singing along to your favorite songs. It quickly turns into a carpool karaoke session. Spotify released a feature called “Jam” a couple of years ago to allow multiple people to pick and queue music from their own devices, without touching the host phone or the Bluetooth speaker. This feature hasn’t been migrated to car-based platforms such as Android Auto, requiring a Bluetooth connection (the old way) to make use of the feature. Well, it looks like that’s changing.

Spotify Jam is finally being added to Android Auto as a built-in feature. This comes as part of Google’s initiative to enhance the user experience in their automotive platform. At the same time, these refinements are also targeted for an overall safer driving journey – reducing distractions where possible.
How it works is simple: the host can simply activate the Jam on the vehicle’s head unit, then a QR will conveniently pop up for passengers to scan. This is a huge step from asking the driver (or co-driver) to queue certain music for them (or passing around the smartphone, which is especially a hassle for WIRED Android Auto users).

It looks like Google isn’t stopping here. It is rumored that the tech giant is looking into the most-used apps on Android Auto and examining ways to streamline daily use.
What is a feature YOU would like to see added to ANY app in Android Auto? Do let us know!
