The vivo Y29 is coming to the Philippines

Listen to article

Earlier this year, the vivo Y29 became official internationally as the successor to the Y28. As more time passed, so did the variants – resulting in a 4G, 5G (the original announcement), and even a supercharged option. Now we’ve finally captured some news on a Philippine release.

Based on the news we’ve gathered so far, the variant coming to our shores is the 4G option. This may be pleasant news to some since it carries a larger 6,500 mAh battery compared to the 5,500 in its contemporaries, all while sheltering a less power-intensive 4G chipset. If it runs dry, then 44W fast charging technologies are available to nurse the battery back to health. This is also faster than what is included with the other variants.

Notable specifications include a 6.68-inch HD+ LCD display with a 120Hz refresh rate, as well as Schott certification for durability. The resolution difference may not matter as much to casual users, especially if it comes with improved battery life. The onboard chipset in this version is the Qualcomm Snapdragon 685. This, surprisingly enough, is a slightly better performer (on paper) than the MediaTek Dimensity 6300 in the other versions.

The 4G iteration can be configured with up to 8GB of onboard RAM and 256GB of expandable storage.

When it comes to optics, the device is set to come with a 50-megapixel main camera and 2-megapixel bokeh sensor. This is pretty much standard fare for the price point and we’re expecting decent imagery in ideal situations, with mild struggles creeping in low-light scenarios.

Other features worth mentioning include a dynamic color light & LED flash for the camera, an onboard IR blaster (indeed a blast from the past), 8-megapixel selfie shooter, and both an IP64 rating and MIL-STD 810H certification for rugged use cases. It’ll ship with vivo’s very own Funtouch OS 15 on top of Android 15, bolstered by promises of AI features.

Initial color options are said to be Noble Brown and Elegant White. The smartphone is slated for a release by the end of the month (May 31).
