Over the week-end, a friend and I went out buying sets of PCs for a small internet cafe business we’re putting up in the province. We were mulling between cheap CRT monitors and LCDs but it turns out a lot of shops have them in stock anymore.
We wanted larger screens (17″ or 19″) so getting all flat screen LCDs would be a bit costly compared to the cheaper CRTs. My initial cost consideration at first was power consumption — LCDs spend just about 10% of what the counterpart CRT would consume.
When we asked PC Express, they said they don’t have a single unit in inventory. They have a couple listed on their site and the price list but the sales guy quipped they no longer offer those. He even checked with their centralized online inventory and there wasn’t any.
Shops used to sell big ones that are up to 22″ and 24″ in size. Today, the large screen sizes are already monopolized by LCDs.
I guess it’s high time CRTs be phased out. At home, I already shifted all monitors to LCD over 2 years ago. Now all 4 monitors are LCDs — they saves space and electricity. Anybody out there still using CRTs?
My family members always say that I am wasting my time here at web,
but I know I am getting knowledge everyday by reading thes nice
posts.
I have stocks of used 17″ CRT monitors, all good working conditions. If interested pls contact Ger 0922-2020-220. Laguna area.
I have 10 units of 17 inches AOC monitors with model 7VLR, and i want to sell it for only P2500 each, all in good working condition. If interested please contact Willy at 7358375 or text 092155*****.
we do still use CRT Monitors in our comp shop it cost us 10x to buy a new LCD monitors so we prefer to 17″ CRT 2nd for only 600php.
I do prefer LCDs. Good for the eyes and lower power consumption.
i read your comments guys…i feel all of you have your reasons…i still am using crt’s..well aside from costly replacement of my monitors, i believe color is a factor….one thing you guys didn’t mention is the repairs of lcd. had one flat Lg 2 yrs ago and it bagged down after the warranty period…
know what happened???it’s part of my tambakables hehe…..no shop here can repair it….unlike crt’s..u cud spend around 500-800 php and it cud be as good as new…:-)
I’m still using my 17 inch AOC CRT monitor. I’ve been using this for 7 years alrady with an average usage of 4-6 hours a day. Still working good. Been thinking of shifting to LCDs but the color reproduction and viewing angle is bettern in CRTs than LCDs. Black is truly back in Crts!
I do desktop publishing work, and I prefer CRTs for this line of work, but eventually in a decade I’ll be hard-pressed to find a CRT that matches what I use right now, so the thing is… I guess that only some top-end manufacturers have LCDs built for desktop publishing.
Yeah.. i’m still using CRT..
Haha! Well, I have 1 PC with CRT monitor (I have this since early 2000!) and another with an LCD. I am hoping that by next month I’d be able to buy a new LCD monitor.
On my next desktop PC, it would be an LCD, for health and economic reasons.
My CRT died three years ago. And I never looked back. LCDs FTW!

we use CRT too at home…its been 5 years and it still works fine…but we’re planning to shift to LCD,if the budget is right hehehe
Yup, I still use CRT for graphic design work, especially since I also run a publication. With CRT, the colors are just more accurate. :)
Reusing my old 17″ CRT monitor. Hooked up to my Asus EEE PC 701, so I could get 1280×1024 for Photoshop-goodness. :D
Naka-dual monitor ako – 22″ LG LCD and 17″ AOC CRT. Plano ko dati yung LCD na lang gamitin nang napansin ko na iba kulay. Mas matched yung kulay ng CRT sa actual print out ng photo.
