11.6″ Acer Timeline 1810TZ unboxed!

So here it is, fresh from its flight from Hong Kong last night — the 11.6″ Acer Timeline 1810TZ. It’s got the same design and form factor as the slower Acer Aspire One AO751 but is powered by an Intel Pentium Dual Core SU4100.

Acer Timeline 1810TZ is like a cross between the Timeline series and the Aspire One series. Not sure when this model will reach the Philippines but the’ve been released in HK for just two weeks only.

Specs include an Intel Pentium Dual Core SU4100 at 1.3GHz, 2GB RAM, 250GB HDD, Intel GMA 4500M (796MB @ 1366×768), WiFi 802.11 b/g/n, HDMI port, Bluetooth and a 6-cell battery that can last up to 8 hours. The battery does not protrude much at the back unlike the AO751.

The unit comes pre-installed with Windows 7 (Windows Experience Index gives it a nice 3.2 score).

Like the other Acer Timeline notebooks, this one does not come cheap. Price was USD$750 or about Php35,000 at the Duty Free of HKIA.

No problem, just make sure that you try out both notebooks first before buying. I would say they both use the same chassis, only the color motif and lid pattern is different. Both are very portable and lightweight and in my opinion much better than buying a 10-inch netbook based on Intel Atom.

If you would like to see how the bronze colored Acer Aspire AO721 looks like, look for pictures of Acer Aspire 1830T on the internet. I believe the body is exactly the same.

For more information on the performance of the Acer Aspire AO721, check out the review of its smaller 10-inch sibling:

Other than the 10-inch screen the components are exactly the same :)

Hi! thank you so much, i’ll take that from you. What store is it in greenhills? I like the 1810TZ reviews on the net and it’s a relief to hear it comes in white color. What i saw from electroworld was a 1825PTZ model pala, touch screen and tablet. It’s pretty as well but it comes in red, uh-oh.

But i have to check the other model you said as well. I want my laptop to be looking really classy yet subtle, aside from the “must” which is good performance, etc.

Valuable info, thank u so much!

My brother and I went to Greenhills yesterday to look for similar laptops (11-12 inches).

The lowest cash price that I saw for the Acer Aspire 1810TZ is Php 26K. This came with 2GB of RAM, a 250GB harddrive, and Windows 7 Basic. It also comes in white color which looks nice and chic. No doubt this will be popular with the ladies hehe!

If you’re looking for something cheaper, check out the new Acer Aspire AO721 laptop. It’s also 11-inches and comes with 2GB of RAM and Windows 7 Basic. The only difference between this and the 1810TZ model is that it uses an AMD single core processor and Radeon graphics. This is what my brother bought for Php 22K paid in cash. It looks exactly the same as the 1810TZ model except that it comes in different colors (silver, black, and copper) and has a fine metal pattern motif on the lid. For me the best looking one was the copper colored model which looks very refined and classy. This is what we took home that day :)

Testing it at home, the performance is so much better than an Atom netbook and the battery life is very decent as well lasting around 4-5 hours.

    Hope this helps :)

It’s currently sold at P37K in electroworld.
Is there any equivalent laptop of this kind in other brands? Maybe, cheaper or at the same price but more efficient? i’m not too familiar with laptop technicalities but i do need an ultra-portable one which i can bring to the library and to my class for report presentations. Long-battery life is a must as i don’t want to bring a charger because of it’s extra weight.
    Thank you so much!

    thanks @sleepygeepy for the help.

anyway, optical drive is not really a ‘must’, just asking :)

but since you recommend the acer timeline, well, i think i’ll buy this one na :) you mentioned in gilmore & greenhills right? i’ll go check it out today.

    THANKS!

Yup no optical drive, but it’s thinner and lighter that way right? If an optical drive is a must, you can also check the HP Pavilion DM3 which is a bit bigger at 13.3 inches (but looks classier). It comes bundled with a matching external USB optical drive which is nice :)

I would say the Acer Timeline 1810TZ is adequate for office tasks like email, MS-Office, Powerpoint presentations, simple photo editing and the like. Just don’t expect it to perform well when doing processor intensive tasks like heavy photo or video editing, or doing calculations in complex spreadsheets.

If you plan to use the Acer Timeline 1810TZ for work, one worthwhile tip is to upgrade it to 4GB of memory. Ask the shop where you purchased it if they will allow the upgrade :)

    hi…thanks for the reply.

this doesn’t have optical drive, right? anyway, is the Acer Timeline 1810TZ recommendable for office use? thanks again.

    @dan
The Acer Timeline 1810TZ is already available in the malls and most shops in Gilmore and Greenhills :)

    @annecy
You can get the HP DM1 at www.tipidpc.com for Php 35K. However specwise, the price might not be worth it especially since you are getting a slower processor with the HP DM1. You are better off going with the Acer Timeline 1810TZ for Php 27K – Php 29K which is a lot cheaper :)

If you’re not in a hurry to buy, might as well wait for the following 11-inch ultraportables to arrive on our shores:

    (Intel Core i3 / Core i5)
    – Lenovo U160
    – Acer Aspire 1830T
    – Acer Travelmate 8172

(AMD Athlon II Neo with Radeon HD 4225 Graphics)
    – Acer Aspire One 721
    – Acer Aspire 1551

Go for the models that use the newer Intel Core i3 or Intel Core i5 Ultra-Mobile processors. They are very powerful yet still maintain the long battery life (6-8 hrs).

is this available in the Philippines? I have been looking for HP Pavilion DM1 here in Manila, unfortunately it’s not available here, right? I’m still searching for a notebook with similar specs as HP DM1. Hope you can help. thanks.

Nice purchase, I hope you can do a comprehensive review especially on 720p ~ 1080p HD video playback :)

I’ve also been contemplating on getting the 1810TZ as well but the price is just a bit high for me (Php 35K at TipidPC). I’m praying that the distros here in the Philippines will carry this model as well. Or at the very least bring in the 11-inch dual core models from Gateway.

I’m still waiting for that “optimum” 11-inch or 12-inch netbook. Currently on the lookout for these models to be available here:

HP Pavilion DM1, Asus EeePC 1201, Dell Inspiron 11z, MSI U230

    *sigh*

sir yuga, can you do a comparison of the available dual core or higher culv 10-12inch note/netbooks around. i’ve been contemplating on buying a culv but obviously it would be great to have powerful processors and better graphics. so if you can, would you please. thanks in advance.

Been drooling for this as I *want* an ultra portable to bring everywhere. But it is still too expensive if bought away from US grounds… :(

    Will wait for your review!
