Google Meet gets new filters, masks and effects on Android and iOS

Listen to article

Google has unveiled a bunch of new filters, masks, and effects for Google Meet on Android and iOS.

The newly added features include animated backgrounds, including an undersea environment with bubbles and jellyfish swimming around, as well as animal filters, such as a cat, elephant, dinosaur, and the like.

To access these new options, join or start a Meet call on Android or iOS, then tap the sparkle icon in the bottom right. Under the old options for background effects, you will see an additional row on options such as Blur, Backgrounds, Styles, and Filters.

As reported by Mashable, the new features should be up now for Android and iOS users, both in the Google Meet app and in Gmail. Note, however, that there are some limitations: you can’t get them in the web experience, and it only works for personal accounts.
