Microsoft to end support on the Internet Explorer 11 by 2021

Listen to article

Microsoft will no longer continue its support to Internet Explorer 11 by 2021.

As shared by Microsoft, Internet Explorer 11 will not be able to access the web app for Teams, as well as Microsoft 365, on November 30, 2020, and August 17, 2021. This includes both personal and business subscription plans and applies to other Microsoft tools such as Outlook, OneDrive, Office 365, among others.

The Microsoft Edge Legacy, on the other hand, will no longer receive security updates from March 9, 2021, onwards.

To make online experiences better, Internet Explorer 11 users are highly encouraged to use Microsoft Edge when accessing Microsoft productivity tools.  Although Internet Explorer 11 isn’t going away, only websites and legacy apps that are built specifically for the said web browser will be accessible to users.

“The Chromium-based Microsoft Edge Legacy”

The legacy MS Edge is not chromium-based. It’s engine is the EdgeHTML, which is a fork of the Trident engine.

Microsoft Edge Legacy is not based on Chromium. This is the browser with the codename Spartan.
