Xiaomi extends update policy: 5 years of OS updates, 7 for security patches

Listen to article

HyperOS Insider has reported Xiaomi’s announcement of extending their update policy. Select devices are now granted support for 5 years of Android updates and 7 years of security patches.

Previously, Xiaomi devices got up to 4 years of OS upgrades and 5 years of security patches. This move suggests the company wants to be in line with brands that are known for providing long-term software support for their offerings.

The first model to benefit from the new policy is the recently launched Redmi Pad 2, including its 4G variant. Both will now receive Android version updates for 5 years and security updates for 7 years.

Xiaomi has yet to confirm the full list of devices eligible for the extended policy. However, more models are expected to be included in the coming months.

The extended update cycle aims to provide longer device usability and better value for users. This is notable news, especially for those who intend to keep their devices for several years.
