Sky Broadband has a new plan for its subscribers offering 50 Mbps of internet connection speed for Php2,899 per month. According to the US Federal Communications Commission, the new definition (benchmark) for fixed broadband is now pegged at a minimum 100Mbps download and 25Mbps upload. This new benchmark may soon be adopted by our own NTC and telcos may no longer use the term broadband if their advertised subscription plan falls short of the 100Mbps mark (i.e. a basic 50Mbps plan may not be referred to as broadband). In our comparison article last year, some ISP broadband plans at still set at 30Mbps and 75Mbps. December 2023 stats increased to 28.12 Mbps (mobile) and 92.92 Mbps (fixed broadband) median country speeds. These figures are higher than November’s stats at 27.75 Mbps (mobile) and 92.19 Mbps (fixed broadband), respectively. Ookla September 2023: PH internet at 26.36 Mbps (mobile), 83.09 Mbps (broadband) The fixed broadband speeds in the country experienced a significant dip in September 2023, dropping to 83.09 Mbps compared to the previous month's 88.81 Mbps.
