Globe ramps up 1GB/day or 3GB/month Fair Usage Policy

Recently, Globe has been sending out reminders via SMS to some of their subscribers about the Fair Usage Policy that they are enforcing. A number of our readers have sent us reports about the daily bandwidth allocation and throttling regulation.

The FUP basically provides an allowance of 1GB per day or 3GB per month, whichever comes first. Once the allocation is used up, subscribers will moved to their 2G network. That means you still get “unlimited” mobile internet but it will be slower.

This FUP applies to all surfing promos and data plans for Globe postpaid and Tattoo Lifestyle Sticks.

It does not cover surfing charged with regular browsing rates (Php5/15 minutes) and those using PowerSurf.

This mechanism is designed to reduce the speeds of only the 3% of users who are responsible for generating large volumes of traffic in Globe’s network.

You can read the full details of Globe’s Fair Use Policy here.

gone are the days where I would update my apps using 4G even when I am at home with PLDT DSL. Sadly, Im stuck with them for 23 more months. Will only download torrents if really needed.

Try setting your phones to HSDPA only. 4G is too fast and your background apps might eat up your bandwidth without knowing it. Google+ keeps backing up any picture I take. I changed it to back up only on wifi.

I suggest using social media for this, similar to what happened to the guy/girl who was billed 3 million for data charges. However since Globe can simply say they are doing it for the 97% who don’t download torrents, I don’t think we can do anything about it.

I still do that. Somehow someway I don’t think it’s strictly enforced. Just updated a massive injustice on hspd and my data is still kicking at 2mbps awhile ago. Total usage for the month is already topped at 6gb. But i don’t do torrent on mobile data.

Guys please file a formal complaint to NTC, I’m pretty sure all the angry Globe users would support you. We need to unite against Globe’s greedy business practices.

May nakapag-confirm na ba if totoo yung 3GB/month limit? I think I’m down to 50MB for the rest of the month na. I’m tempted to just be done with it.

They cut me off yesterday morning. One of my tablets was updating Injustice so I must have hit some limit. Although my phone said I was H+, Speedtest said I was getting 7kB/s. Im now on dial up? Also, the link to the FUP that I got via text is still up so I don’t think they are rethinking anything. Im tempted to spend the rest of the week trying to get to the 3GB limit to see what happens. Its 2 more days naman. But I think there is a chance I may make it to some “initial list of violators”. Will see.

“Globe is committed to providing you with fast and reliable mobile internet service. That’s why we’ve taken steps to implement an Fair Use Policy designed to reduce the speeds of only the 3% of users who are responsible for generating large volumes of traffic on our network which greatly impacts the service we offer to other paying subscribers. These customers often have file-sharing software or peer-to-peer/torrent apps on their phones or tablets, and download large-format files such as music, videos and movies consistently.

This means customers on an internet promo and plan who exceed 1 GB a day or 3 GB per month (whichever comes first) will experience browsing at 2G speeds.

This policy allows us to maintain the quality of our mobile internet service and give all Globe customers a fair opportunity to enjoy our network.

Our Fair Use Policy is aligned with the global industry practice of telecommunications providers anywhere in the world and is subject to change without prior notice.

Our Fair Use Policy applies to all surfing promos and data plans for Globe postpaid and Tattoo Lifestyle Sticks, except PowerSurf. It also doesn’t cover surfing charged with regular browsing rates (P5/15 minutes).

Mobile surfing offers from Globe are generally meant for emailing, browsing and search activities. Customers who frequently use file-sharing software or download large files are usually the ones affected by our policy. Media streaming and downloading of torrents also contribute to the excessive use of bandwidth capacity.”

May ganito ba ang smart? feeling ko globe lang which just proves gloe is such a weak company that it cannot cater to the needs or even wants(besides we pay them for it) of their consumers. such a shame!

Finally found this post just now. False advertising indeed. I hope their taking down of the page means they are trying to reconsider the situation.

PS: Who can suggest an alternative? :(

3GB per month / 1GB per day (whichever comes first) does not make sense.

    3000 MB per month / 30 days = 100 MB per day???

    – 100MB = more or less 10 minutes of youtube videos (HD)
    – What if you need to download some installers, apps on your phone/tablet, photos, personal files, etc.?

Fair Use Policy is okay, as long as they have given us a choice, or have informed us, before even subscribing.

    Dear Globe

I regret to inform you #globe, that after the long years we’ve been together since year 2000, I must leave you now.

I was a prepaid subscriber before, using your 1day unlimted internet for 50 pesos. Until I discovered that you have a daily cap of 800mb/day. This made me call 211 (your customer service) and made me verify on your globe store. They told me that it was true, you have your 800mb capping per day for prepaid subscribers, that’s why I should get a postpaid plan. And so stupid, that I did.

Well you kept up to your promise, from January 2013, until yesterday, January 2014, I am able to download ISO’s, Microsoft Server and OS’es trials and other stuffs online, some even 6GB in size, which I can download in 3 hours or less, because your internet speed in Eastwood is very fast, considering it’s LTE. An average of 2.5 GB per day, or sometimes, I even reached 10GB one day. This is keeping up to your promise.

But just today, early morning, you made me so frustrated, and messaged me that I just reached my 1GB cap for the day, and may try again the next day. So today, I can just crawl for 2G speed, which I beleive I don’t deserve.

Well other networks do implement this Fair Use Policy, just like Wi-Tribe, but the only difference is, they never #cheated me, like you did #globe.

“The only difference is, Wi-Tribe is upfront with this “FAIR USE POLICY” information at the onset. So for a discerning would be subscriber, the choice is his/hers if they want to subscribe to Wi-Tribe.”

Before you even subscribe, they would actually tell you, that they have this cap.

Unlike you guys. Im in a middle of my contract with you, you told me you had no cap, and suddenly you want to implement cap on my plan. At least respect the contract?

Let’s say, an employee, who has been hired to do data entry earns 10k a month as agreed on the contract for those sets of responsibility, and got promoted to a supervisor position with additional duties. You think that employee, would just accept the job with no salary increase at all? This would look like a #onesided contract, the company has the right to add duties, but the employee does not.

Imagine a student who is enrolled to a school, paying 30k per semester and is paying in installment for 10k per payment, and suddenly the school wanted to change the tuition fee. Would you think the existing student would agree?

What I am pointing out is that, having this data cap is fair enough to implement, but atleast give your subscribers a choice. If when they subscribed to the plan with no cap limit, then atleast give them what they subscribed for. So implementing cap limit should not even be implemented to subscribers who were told that they don’t have cap limit.

Cap limit should not be implemented to existing subscribers who were given the chance to get #unlimited internet with no cap, unless they re-contract, then it will be there choice, if they would still want to subscribe to the new policy.

Your motto: Enjoy Globe Your Way!!!
At least, live up to it.

This policy of data capping of 1GB per day, 3GB per month for exisitng postpaid subscribers is clearly:

    #Cheating
    #Unfair
    #NoChoice
    #pandaraya
    #WalangIsangSalita
    #Joke
    #AreYouKidding
    #UnlimitedNaHindiUnlimited
    #UnlimitedNaLimited
    #OneSided

If for postpaid, you get 1GB per day, or 3GB per month, then mag prepaid nlng ako, then I would have 800mb per day, 24GB per month. makes sense, right #globe???

Paano na kaya to. -.-

False advertising si Globe in a way. Sinasabi e “UNLIMITED” and then limits your data usage to 1gb/day or 3gb/month.

They’re exploiting/abusing the use of the word UNLIMITED with BROWSING to get customers. Indeed, kung browsing lang, you’re less likely to use 1gb in a day, lalung lalo sa mobile devices. That means check mail, fb, upload/download a few photos, little to no video streaming, etc.

Posted on Globe’s Acceptable Terms on Fair Use FAQ’s:

“Q: What is your threshold? How do you define normal usage?

A: Sorry, but we cannot reveal the set of thresholds. What we can only tell is that this varies depending on the overall usage and may change without prior notice. Our system initiates the monitoring and as soon as it detects that your usage is significantly higher than the normal terms of use, it will trigger promo deactivation.”

How do you expect us to cooperate when you hold even this basic info?

Is this based on signal coverage per area?
If so, make the information available on your site please.

“Normal use” is just too arbitrary.

This prevents consumers to make an informed decision.

Anyway, my only complaint is that 3GB/month is way too low. That’s 3GB for 1000 bucks??

10-15GB at least in my opinion should be fair enough for a 999 plan.

    • Avatar for gndlng gndlng says:

I agree on this one. I don’t exceed usage of 15gb per month. Pero 3gb is too low for a 999/mo charge.

pati daly cap nila is very inconvenient. i don’t use my mobile internet often, first time in 2 weeks i’ll be using it to download an important installer file and i got blocked because of exceeding the daily cap. imagine, 1.4gb lang for 2 weeks and i’m blocked from using. hindi nga slow eh, kundi talagang walang internet at all. is that considered heavy usage? i don’t think so. gawin nilang monthly ang cap. or babaan nila singil. i don’t like to pay 999 for a 3gb plan. hindi naman slow e, kundi totally walang internet.

this in very unfair to their postpaid users.

nakakainis ang globe. nakakwala ng loob. nagsisisi ako i just got my new 1799/mo plan.
