Devices labeled as "vintage" can still be repaired at Apple Stores and authorized service centers, but only if the necessary parts are still available. The iPhone XS was launched in September 2018 alongside the iPhone XS Max and was pulled from Apple’s main lineup in 2019.
Both phones were incremental updates to the original iPhone X, offering a faster A12 Bionic chip, slightly better cameras, and dual SIM support. The XS Max stood out mainly for its bigger 6.5-inch display.
In two more years, the iPhone XS will be considered obsolete, meaning Apple will no longer provide service or repairs for it, even if parts are available.
Aside from the iPhone XS update, Apple also moved the 5th-generation iPad (2017) to its obsolete list.
Furthermore, Apple quietly updated its support page to remind 2018 Mac mini users to check with service providers about repair options. This model was added to the vintage list earlier this year, though the reason for its early inclusion remains unclear.
