KIRF: Beats Tour earphones from Beats by Dr. Dre

Listen to article

When I first saw this being sold in one of the stalls in the Mall, I could not believe they’d carry Beats by Dr. Dre along with 2nd hand phones and other China phones so I suspected it was a fake.

But if you look at the packaging, you’d certainly tink this is the real thing until you found out how much they are selling it for — Php400 ($10) as against the $189.95 (Php10,900 in Astroplus/Astrovision) on the Beats by Dr. Dre website.

They even keep the details as close as possible — the manuals, the warranty card and carrying case are all included in the box.

The earphones definitely looks like a knock-off with the finish on the buds itself looking to peel off anytime soon. Feels plasticky too.

I am told these knock-offs have been selling in stalls for some time now. I also saw Power Beats by Dr. Dre for only Php1,800 (SRP is Php11,500).

I’ve tried the Beats by Dr.Dre, over the head “‘Studio'” model(double quotes). It sounds good, but nothing special really. For the price it commands its over rated. Their mid-high end range models can fetch you a high end professional grade studio reference headsets like the AKG Quincy Jones model. And why pre-amp the headphones? All I hear there is “ear damage”. just my 2bucks.

Try spending that much on a headphone? It’s like spending a fortune. :\

I know someone selling a fake studio beats. He’s getting it directly from China pero mejo mahal. Walang difference yung sound quality sa original and it’s really head banging. The only problem is, walang assurance kung tatagal sya. Lol.

Hindi tlga prehas quality nung tunog sa fake and orig. Promise. Only audiophiles know. But if you can’t see the difference, it’s ok. ^^

Still not worth wasting Php 1000-3000. Prefer Bluetooth headset of Hisense and Jabra Music Edition they got good quality and bass and mine still runs 9hrs. and they are both cheap both of them only cost Php 4000 real deal almost all Device works Like: iPad 1/2, Samsung Galaxy S/S2/Tab/Ace, Laptops, Blackberry, Nokia. So in General it can be done.

Pardon me for my ignorance, gusto ko rin sana yung mga buetooth earphone like jabra kaso di ba isang piraso lang sya? Bale isang ear lang meron? Tama ba? Im also looking for a high quality earphone basta below 5k lang, ok sana bose kaso 6k na e, though i prefer kung bluetooth nga pero sana 2 tenga k covered hehe

GE
geogetski666 · 15 years ago

@tangegotska
baka nga kase sobra cheap may control talk nasa 2k lang XD hehe kaya siguro panget tunog XD

@everage
tested it using flac on my rockbox ipod video 5th gen malaki difference even on regular mp3 or maybe its the cheapest 2k lang kasi kaya siguro panget but for 2k with control talk there are other brands of iem with better sound quality siguro minus the control talk hehe :)

I have an original CX-300 II and my friend has the fake beats, napahiya ako sa bass nung peke walang sinabi bass ng Senn ko. Kaya di ko na ginagamit Senn bumili na lang din ako peke for 1k. it’s not status symbol or something, kc di ko naman ginagamit sa labas, maganda lang talaga tunog nya.

i have nothing against those na gusto bumili at nagtitibda ng OEM or Class A..

eksakto! sa a-jays din ako because of the quality of materials used and of course the sound quality. i may not be an audiophile but i like using earphones that produce excellent, at least based on my standards, sound quality. and people should know that they get what they paid for so better invest on something that they can use for a longer time. i am a klipsch s4 user and i bought it at virgin megastore so 100% hindi fake :D

buy an OEM at P400. Sell it as class A for P1,200 while explaining the difference to your customer. Buy 3 more OEMs at P400 again. Sell them again as class A. You can earn a fortune by selling everything as class A. Really, you guys believe there is such a difference between class A and so-called OEM?

My friend bought the fake one last week for P500. She said to me that the seller explain to her the differences between the original and the fake one. The seller even let my friend tried his original Beats by Dre and found out that the quality of the sound was somehow the same.

I tried the fake one and it’s just like the same with my Nokia WH-205 headset, but yeah, with P500 it’s a good buy.

I have “OEM” beats, payed around 900 for them and they sound great. The bass is amazing and compared to my Sennheiser earphones (in ear too) bass is superior. The sound is actually quite rich. They’re pretty good quality too, had them for months now and they’re not broken. (probably because it comes with a case)

Sellers told the consumers that these are the OEM ones. Less, marketing and branding made it cheap. Anyway, I really don’t know and i won’t give a damn having these earphones anyway.

hit or miss. i tried 2. one sounded near orig while the other is terrible. OEM sound is ok, class A is not ok.

out of topic: HTC + Beats? magkano na kaya HTC phones? :(

for P500 (OEM) that sounds near orig, i’ll go for it. not to promote piracy, cost matters.

sulet yan.. kng mas mura sana yung orig nyan, i would buy it.. kya lng 10,900… dun nako sa mura na almost same lang sound quality.

i bought the tour and solo hd in the states a few months ago for a fortune considering they cost as much as most decent mobile phones…then last week i bought the OEM’s of the tour and solo here…I was shocked! A little difference aesthetically but the sound quality…as a digital audio editor in profession..they are almost the same both in bass and treble measures…bwiset!

Found out these so called OEM are like win or lose..some sounded good while some like what my friend got sounded crap. Weird!

I don’t have such brand (I am using my Motorola Bluetooth headset). Maybe they are legit but with factory defect. Instead of disposing those defective unit, why not sell them in the market? It’s a win win for them!

Just my idea! ;-)

GE
Gene · 15 years ago

I have a class-A beats tour and looks more legit than cheap knock offs. I tested material quality and I can say that it really looks like the original about 80% or so. If I’m correct, the original’s cord is not shiny and doesn’t get bent easily same as mine. As for sound quality, I can say it got about 90% to the original. I just don’t know if it applies to other class-A models.

Just my 2 cents. :)

what an idiot thinking he got up to 90% of how the product looks. Apply alcohol (70% solution only), make sure its isopropyl, rub it down a few times…watch it go from shiny to 90% original looking. But gosh you are so lucky to find a class A knock off. Your brain must be 80% fake

PE
Pepe · 15 years ago

It seems you people haven’t heard of chinese companies smuggling their wares instead of surrendering it to their own client. That would be a good example of Class A.

Besides, does the outer shell really matter? Even if the print would easily rub off, would that harm its sound quality in any way? It won’t :P

My friend has one of these. I tested the quality and upon touching it I was convinced it was fake. He got it for Php800 and even had it registered in the Beats website. I was still doubtful so I put it in my ears. The music is horrible. My A4 tech in-ear headphones felt like an Apple product… :)

sir abe – I see, maybe because you got the 400 ones :) I just tried one of them that cost almost 1k. It it sounds and looks promising. Thanks! I just wonder if it was over-priced :) But since your unit has horrible sound. I guess the 1k ones is a good buy :)
