Listen to article

Canon has unveiled the PowerShot V1 compact camera—primarily built for vlogging.

It features a 22MP Type 1.4 CMOS sensor with a 1.4-inch sensor size and a wider 3:2 aspect ratio. It’s equipped with Canon’s Dual Pixel AF II system, a 16-50mm equivalent f/2.8-4.5 zoom lens.

For display, it has a 3-inch and a fully articulating LCD touchscreen.

It’s capable of shooting 4K at up to 30 fps from a full sensor readout, or 60 fps from a 1.4x cropped region. Notably, there’s also a cooling fan for extended recording, allowing for continuous 4K/60p video for over two hours with no overheating.

In terms of video features, the V1 supports 10-bit Log footage via Canon Log3. It can also connect to a smartphone via USB or Wi-Fi for tethering and be used for live streaming when connected to a computer.

The camera offers EIS and OIS, with an option for ‘Subject Tracking IS’ to keep a subject steady in the frame.

Canon is positioning the PowerShot V1 as a versatile tool for content creators, with its ability to capture both high-quality video and stills. It has P, A, S, and M modes, plus support for raw image capture.

However, it lacks an electronic viewfinder and built-in flash. It does include a multi-function hot shoe providing third-party solutions.

Price and availability

According to the brand’s Japanese website, the Canon PowerShot V1 is priced at JPY 148,500.

It will launch first in Asian markets including Japan, China, Korea, Hong Kong, and Taiwan. A wider release is expected at some point, thogh Canon has yet to say a word.
