Apple already knew that Cisco owns the trademark for iPhone. It’s been under Cisco since way back 1996. I guess when rumors about Apple going out with their own mobile phone, Cisco made its move and released a cheap VoIP phone last quarter and used their iPhone trademark. Cisco is a $176 billion dollar company so I don’t think this was about more money again.

Now that Cisco is bringing Apple to court, they either settle amicably and do some licensing agreement or Steve Jobs has to think of another name for the iPhone.
Why don’t we help him out and think of really creative ones (not that they don’t have enough creative people on their payroll):
- Apple Phone (ain’t that easy?)
- MobiPod
- iCall (someone else owns that TM? Maybe they could buy it.)
- NoKeeYah
- Apple Mobile iPalm
Any more suggestions? *hehehe*

[...] Because Cisco owns the product name for iPod, Steve Jobs has to either do some battling in court or settle things in a friendly manner and call his iPhone something else. [...]
See the original “iPhone” trademark filing.
