Microsoft “I’m a PC” Ads

The first 2 Microsoft ads featuring Bill Gates and Jerry Seinfeld got a lot of flak so they’ve rehashed the story-line to focus on the PC stereo-type as depicted by Apple. This time, Microsoft is using one its own Software Engineers — and they are simple but great ads.

It’s basically a jab against the “PC vs. Mac” ads distributed by Apple. Microsoft’s rebuttal sounds cool that make you wanna say “I’m a PC!”.

This one has Eva Longoria in it.

… as well as Pharrel Williams.

And according to Mike Arrington, “what they do is show lots of fascinating people saying that they use PCs. They highlight the fact that many people may be somewhat offended by the idea that they can’t be interesting or cool if they don’t use a Mac.

It reminds me of that Discovery Channel ad “I love the Whole World”:

they should make a singing commercial like that for the PC ads :)

Its cool how they got the same PC guy from the Mac ads, that is him right?

Nope, it’s not John Hodgman (the PC guy in the Apple commercials). His name is Sean Siler, a look-alike, who’s working on IPV6 as Program Manager in Microsoft.

It may not beat those Mac vs PC ads but this is definitely better than those Seinfeld ads.

Nice ads but I liked the Seinfeld/Gates ads better.

About this new ad, they should have gotten real PC users instead of paying some celebs and asking their own employees to promote their own product.

Pharrel Williams is part of the ad but in a previous, unpaid interview by BGR… he admits being a Mac user.

Microsoft ads sucks. I am a Mac user but I do not like the Mac ads. Kinda arrogant and subtly offensive. I was expecting Microsoft to blow out the Mac ads knowing that they allocated $300 million for this campaign. Microsoft really just dont know how to be creative…or even just provide creative direction for their ad agency. sad. I hope their next ads will be better.

I love it. About time Microsoft puts out some clever ads that speak back.

Sadly, I haven’t see any of these commercials on network TV>

idiot. the ads werent rehashed. they were part of the campaign strategy. dont try to be all-knowing about advertising stuff when you dont know what’s going on. the dudes who made this ads were crispin+bogusky, one of the best in the industry. they’re almost the same level as the folks from droga5 in terms of expertise and galing. the idea for the first wave of advertisements was to encourage discussions, while the second ones (the videos above) were meant to attack the Im a Mac, Im a PC ad and i think its working.

The new ads are brilliant! MS was able to get back at Apple without actually saying anything against them.
