LG GB230 Wireless FM Phone

Have you always wondered why earphones are needed to make the built-in FM tuner to work on cellphones? They double as an external antenna but LG’s GB230 Wireless FM phone tells us you really don’t need one.

The LG GB230 is an entry-level phone so don’t expect a lot of bells and whistles with this one — no 3G (just GPRS/EDGE), no WiFi, or GPS.

What it boasts is the FM tuner feature that no longer needs those unwieldy earphones to function. The antenna is built-in so you can blast out music from an FM station thru the speakers. The dedicated FM button on the left side of the control keys make sure you don’t easily forget this feature.

There’s a feature that allows you do live FM recording for playback at a later time. Internal memory is just 6MB so you’ll rely on the 2GB microSD for storage.

There’s another dedicated button on the right side for the camera but it’s just 2-megapixel and has no autofocus. This unit will sell for around Php5,500 (give or take a couple hundred pesos) when it comes out in stores.

Well at least there’s an option for some people out there who really are affected by the suffering economy… At least they can still get a new cellphone for Christmas… Even if it’s not that good as the other high end cellphones…

But I think it should be priced lower than what you mention… I could get a better albeit a second hand cellphone for Php5,500…

Yeah, AM would be useful. Specially when another typhoon hits philippines again. (hopefully not again)

Totally agree with the AM function. Haven’t seen a phone having a feature like that. During a typhoon, AM function is indispensable, especially if the only thing you can grab during such happening is your pocket money and a fully-charged phone. =D

It may be cool at first but without a memory included in the package you would still need to cash out a few hundred bucks just to enjoy its FM recording feature…

this is free with sun’s 350. the nokia 2700 which is also under the plan 350 is a better option for a low end phone.
