Dell Optiplex 160 joins nettop crowd

Dell seems to be the only western brand that is already on board the nettop crowd at the moment — the Optiplex 160 being the flagship nettop PC on its line.

That’s beside the more expensive Dell Studio Hybrid we saw earlier which comes with a dual core or a Core 2 Duo processor.

The Dell Optiplex 160 gets the following specs:

Intel Atom CPU N270
1GB to 4GB 667MHz DDR2 SDRAM
80-160GB HDD or 20-64GB SSD
SIS Mirage 3 Integrated Graphics
External DVD ROM (optional)
Gigabit LAN
Dell Wireless 1397 802.11BG Half Mini-PCIe card (optional)
Genuine Windows Vista or FreeDOS

You get downgradable rights for windows XP if you get the Vista version. Weighs 2.09kg and a height of 9″. Dual core Atom CPUs will be available in 2009 at an additional price.

Starting price if $563 without the monitor.

not cheap, seems to be more of a low priced, compact, stylized desktop

The design of the unit itself is not bad, but what a weird stand. :)

It’s better to own a laptop than this.

Better get a netbook with same specs.. plug a good LCD if 1 wants larger screen.. then if need to be mobile simply bring the netbook itself… dual purpose at the same price and specs…

Despite the negative feedback, somebody some where will find this box worth the buck.

My dad’s probably getting this in replacement for the dying media center pc that he’s got.

    Nettops still baffle me.

Parang crazy fad lang that don’t really serve any cool functionality — when you think about it.

Netbooks are cool — their design respects their function. But a DESKTOP dedicated to just surfing the net and processing documents? Come on. And at that price? Hmm.

Ever since IBM left the PC World, crazy things have happened na.

Hehe. :) I miss IBM (strictly) PCs.

    @TechPinas: low-power home server.

albeit this configuration is an overkill.
