Several emails I received the other day pointed to ABS-CBNNews.com with an expired landing page for Network Solutions. Someone must have forgotten to renew their domain.
A quick WHOIS on the domain revealed some clues:
Domain Name: ABS-CBNNEWS.COM
Registrar: NETWORK SOLUTIONS, LLC.
Whois Server: whois.networksolutions.com
Referral URL: http://www.networksolutions.com
Name Server: NS.ABS-CBN.COM
Name Server: NS.SKYINET.NET
Name Server: NS2.ABS-CBN.COM
Status: clientTransferProhibited
Updated Date: 02-aug-2008
Creation Date: 27-jul-1998
Expiration Date: 26-jul-2009
Indeed, the domain abs-cbnnews.com was up for expiration last July 26, 2008. It is possible nobody noticed this and when the expiration elapsed, it usually takes 5 to 7 days for the Registrar’s landing page to take over (in this case, that of Network Solutions).
According to the records, the domain’s WHOIS was updated in August 2, 2008. This could be the time when the domain renewal was implemented.
What puzzles me is why wouldn’t ABS CBN just extend the renewal of the domain for at least 10 years. That would have just cost them a couple hundred dollars.

geeez what if somebody registered abs-cbn.com kaya ano and sell the domain name to them..
oic should be blame.
Maybe they didn’t know. LOL
There now are two different ABS-CBN news websites up, the old “http://www.abs-cbnnews.com”, and the new “http://news.abs-cbn.com”.
Both sites have more or less the same content, but different designs.
It’s still not up. Strangely, http://www.jkontherun.com is having the same problem…
@anonymous - it expired July 26, 2008. They renewed in August 2, 2008. New expiration is July 26, 2009.
Should have activated auto notification for expiring domains, or even activated auto-renewal… Generally it’s an internal staff fault, and I guess he must be sweating bullets at the time… lol!
Oh well, sh*t happens. LOL
