Adobe has partnered with Yahoo to offer publishers advertising opportunities on their PDF files. Same contextual advertising we’re already familiar with in YPN.
Adobe Labs explains the details in this animated walk through. All ads are automatically inserted by Yahoo! based on the context of the content PDF file. Publishers then get a share of the revenue from ad clicks.
Of course there will be exceptions to the types of content that the ads will be shown. That includes the usual stuff like adult, violent, religious, defamatory, drug-related, gambling and weaponry. What’s interesting though is that their exception list includes the sale of products from any of the following countries: The Balkans, Burma (Myanmar), Cuba, Iran, Iraq, Liberia, Libya, North Korea, The Sudan, Syria or Zimbabwe.

If you are a YPN member, you will still need to apply separately to be considered in this program. You will also need a valid U.S. Social Security or Tax ID number, and PDF content that is in English and targeted at a U.S. user base.
That practically takes us out of the program. Bummer.

Finally a big name sees the potential value of PDF. Too bad adobe killed it with bad practices a few years back.
