TrafficDito brings traffic-monitoring to the crowd

Met one of the folks from TrafficDito yesterday where I was introduced to their new iPhone app. It’s like the MMDA app we showed you earlier but this one runs by crowd-sourcing it to drivers and commuters.

Just download the app from the iTunes App Store (search for TrafficDito) and sign up for an account so you can submit live traffic reports.

The app gets your location (via GPS) automatically so that when you submit traffic reports, it pushes your location as well. Traffic quality is rated as Light, Moderate or Heavy.

The app is pretty neat and really requires a lot of users for it to be very useful since it will cover all streets around Metro Manila. This should complement the MMDA app really well.

Hop on to Traffic Dito for details.

Great! Will be waiting for more improvements in the future, like Twitter/FB integration, so that once you submit the report you’ll have the option to post/share the same in Twitter or FB.

How reckless. now you want drivers to report traffic? bad idea. at the very least, enable voice so that they can report traffic with their hands free unit.

This looks like a great app. But I wonder how useful it will be when the MMDA app works just as well without dependence from user contributions.

      Hey Freelance!

While the app is at its best with its users contributing real-time, even people not using the app become contributors through their foursquare check-ins, geo-tagged tweets, even just regular tweets!

At the same time, we’ve built the app such that every time the MMDA has updates, they pop out on the stream and are instantly mapped on the right locations!

Check out blog.trafficdito.com for all the details!

Nice app! The design is sleek and the interface is so fool-proof. :)

This app doesn’t have to compete with the MMDA app since it also tries to solve the same problem (traffic) in a different approach. MMDA updates traffic info on each point manually after some interval. This app’s reports are taken from user input, traffic rants from twitter, and MMDA updates. I wonder how it’s able to do all that.

Kinda good but compromising your security and privacy. anyone with this apps can track you while you are updating.

This looks similar to the StreetSmart Android/iOS app that won last year in a contest sponsored by Globe. Link here: http://numlock.com.ph/blog/?p=378
