Acer Aspire V5: Quad-core, 11.6″ Touchscreen Display

Acer has just introduced a more affordable version of the Aspire V5 ultraportable — one that runs on a quad-core processor, has 4GB of RAM, 500GB HDD with a touchscreen HD IPS LCD display.

Priced at only Php24,900, the Acer Aspire V5 offers a pretty good set of hardware specs.

Acer Aspire V5 specs:
11.6-inch IPS LCD display @ 1366×768 pixels
AMD A6-1450 1.0GHz (1.4GHz Turbo) quad-core processor
Radeon HD 8280G Graphics with 512MB VRAM
4GB DDR3 RAM
500GB SATA HDD
WiFi 802.11 b/g/n
Bluetooth 4.0+HS
720p HD webcam
1 x USB 3.0 port
1 x USB 2.0 port
SD Card Reader
Acer Mini Port
3-cell Li-Ion 2640mAh battery
Windows 8 64bit

It doesn’t have any optical disk drive. The combination of a quad-core AMD CPU and Radeon 8280 graphics should be pretty interesting. The 11.6-inch model looks to be competing with the Asus Vivobook X202e we reviewed earlier.

I would have expected better battery life for such a low powered APU? How come AMD cannot make these mobile processors do better? Oh, and why do we have a Ford Pinto CPU pulling a Mustang GPU? For most users of a small notebook the emphasis of power should be on the CPU. This won’t ever be a gaming notebook. Lately AMD has been handicapping APU’s like this with dreadful CPU speed. WHY?

I will go for this if this model and its price provided a 14″ screen.
BUT HEY! Sorry 11.6″ screen doesn’t suite my power gaming hobby.
    Next product please….

@techatbp no it’s not better. this is good for standard gaming like league of legends

Yes, Core i3 + HD4000 is much better in terms of performance. But in terms of power consumption, that AMD A6 chip easily beats the Core i3.

I’ve seen reviews of this processor and I’m so impressed that the newest generation of AMD APUs can deliver satisfying gaming performance while just using less power. Definitely a good low-power chip. And I whole-heartedly agree with @Karl that the AMD A6 above is already good because it uses the Graphics Core Next (GCN) architecture that is also used for the graphics of PS4 and Xbox One.
