NBN now GBN: Government Broadband Network

Relevance: 100%      Posted on: November 29, 2007

The canceled National Broadband Network project with China's ZTE is now being revived as the GBN or Government Broadband Network. NBN, GBN -- same creature, just different skin. Inquirer.net reports that local telcos PLDT and Globe are on a wait-and-see status regarding the broadband project. My previous hunch that this project is not totally dead is spot on. The original issue of whether or not the NBN was a sound project is now clear. It was all about who was getting the project and which hands were getting the cut from it. Whether PLDT or Globe lands the project, guess…

Performancing Partners Ad Network

Relevance: 100%      Posted on: June 30, 2006

Performancing is launching an Ad Network specifically for bloggers. Dubbed Performancing Partners, the main goal of the ad network is to open the floor for bloggers to generate more passive income on top of direct income from their blogs. The ads will be non-contextual so you can run them alongside your Google AdSense or YPN ads. Two revenue models are being put in place -- Direct advertising on a monthly flat fee basis based on recommended CPM for category type, and CPA (cost per aquisition). Success of such a niche ad network will highly depend on the people behind it…

R.I.P.: Yahoo! Publisher Network

Relevance: 99%      Posted on: April 27, 2010

Last March, Yahoo! emailed all of its publishers that it will discontinue running its Publisher Network (YPN) by April 30, 2010. YPN is Yahoo's own version of the more popular Google AdSense Network. The Yahoo! Publisher Network was launched way back in 2005 but never really went beyond the shores of the United States. I've actually signed up with YPN back in 2006 but was still put on hold since I'm not yet qualified. Since then, I've been getting regular email announcements about the network. Too bad it will close before we even get to try it here in the…

Is Sun Cellular now riding on Smart’s network?

Relevance: 90%      Posted on: March 11, 2012

I know this would not be a huge surprise since Sun Cellular is already a member of the PLDT Group but just saw a couple of days ago that Sun Cellular has upgraded its network's signal strength. It might have seem routinary but the instructions were a bit telling -- select "Smart" in the network settings. The instructions were stated like so (primarily in Tagalog). Ngayon, mula Ilocos Norte hanggang Marinduque, Isabela hanggang Mindoro, Nueva Vizcaya hanggang Albay, pwedeng-pwede mo na gamitin ang Sun para ma-contact 24/7 ang iyong pamilya, kamag-anak at barkada. Sa Sun, kumpleto na ang tawagan sa…

Smart wants you to stress-test their 3G network

Relevance: 89%      Posted on: July 29, 2010

So tomorrow (July 30), Smart will open their 3G network to everyone and offer free mobile internet for free within a 24-hour period. No registration needed, no special requirements -- there's no catch (except for a minimum 1 peso load balance). Just fire up your mobile browser and start surfing with Smart 3G. My guess is that Smart wants to stress-test their 3G network and see if their bandwidth can take the capacity and the load. Maybe we can all lend a hand and tether our 3G phones to our laptop or PC and download stuff all day? {see FAQ…
