DTI and TikTok explore setup of content creator academy

Listen to article

The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) and TikTok are exploring ways to set up a content creator academy in the Philippines.

In a statement made this week, the DTI said that the collaboration was discussed in a meeting on June 5th. This occurred in Singapore between Trade Secretary Alfredo Pascual and TikTok company representatives.

The DTI noted that the goal of the academy was fostering Filipino talent and creativity. The academy would be a means to pave the way for deeper digital integration nationwide.
According to data released last March by the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA), the value of the creative economy reached PHP 1.72 trillion.

The data was inclusive of revenue from artists, influencers, content creators, and entertainers. It grew by 6.9% in 2023, outpacing the 5.6% growth of the country’s economy itself.

The academy could help Filipinos learn how to develop content best suited for the short-form medium Tiktok offers. With mobile-centered videos, incoming students could improve their chances of gaining an audience with the provided accessibility.

Even others could use the platform in promoting their products through live selling sessions and the TikTok Shop e-commerce tool. Moreover, the DTI and TikTok have also discussed improvements to the platform’s security with cybercrime present in the country.

With that, the DTI welcomed TikTok’s Safety Enforcement Tool. This is a portal built for verified government agencies and law enforcement representatives to securely request and monitor the progress of content takedown.

This is a developing story, so we’ll update readers if TikTok’s content creator academy comes to fruition.
