Over time, it appears that Samsung has been slowly phasing out its in-house Messages app. At first it was no longer the default messaging application for new devices, and now an official announcement makes this all real.

The website provides some instructions and information to make switching easier.
Users are encouraged to download Google Messages from the Play Store and install the program on their smartphones. A pop-up window should appear soon after, wherein users are instructed to set Google Messages as their default SMS app.
This transition brings added functionality, such as AI-enabled scam protection, RCS messaging, expressive AI features, and multi-device connectivity. Simple as that.

There are some interesting limitations. Firstly, the site says this is only for US-based customers. There is no information regarding international markets. Next, users on older versions such as Android 12 or 13 need to add Google Messages to their home screens manually.

Some other reminders include messaging compatibility with older Galaxy Watch devices, RCS interruptions on Samsung Messages, and others.
