Digital cameras really do come and go. It was only a couple of years ago when the Rebel XT (ESO 350D) and the XTi (EOS 400D) was introduced in the market. Now, Canon is coming up with the next generation that will surely create another wave of mad rush to camera shops around the world.
It’s the Digital Rebel XSi or Canon EOS 450D. And based on the announced specs, it’s something to drool for.

Depending on which region you are in, it will be named differently — In Japan it will be called Canon EOS Kiss Digital x2, in the US it’s Canon Rebel Digital XSi and Canon EOS 450D elsewhere.
The EOS 450D features:
* 12.2 Megapixel CMOS sensor
* Canon’s EOS Integrated Cleaning System
* 3.5 frames per second
* 3.0†LCD with Live View shooting
* 9-point wide-area AF system with f/2.8 cross-type centre point
* Picture Style image processing parameters
* DIGIC III image processor
That brings this entry-level digital SLR close to the prosumer Canon EOS 40D in terms of features — i.e., the 12.2MP and the 3-inch LCD with Live View. The design, controls and menu are still similar to the previous 400D.
And it’s relatively cheaper at $799 (will ask Canon Philippines when this will be available locally and for how much). When the Rebel XT (350D) came out in Feb. 2005, it costs $999 and the Canon 400D had an $899 SRP when it was introduced in August 2006.
