DOTr, LTFRB launches GPS-enabled monitoring system for PUVs

The Department of Transportation (DOTr) and the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) have launched the Central Public Utility Vehicle Monitoring System (CPUVMS), a modern system that can monitor PUV trips in real-time using Global Positioning System (GPS).

LTFRB Chairman Martin Delgra says that under the CPUVMs, the agencies can also check the speed, estimated time of arrival (ETA), as well as the number of PUVs traversing a specific route at any given time, which can help commuters plan their trips. He added that the Command Center ng LTFRB Central Office can also monitor possible violations of PUVs like not disregarding traffic lanes, over-dwelling, speeding, and if it’s a colorum vehicle.

The CPUVMS is currently being used at Phase 1 of the Service Contracting Program where the Central PUV Monitoring Station is monitoring Public Utility Buses (PUB) traversing the EDSA Carousel.

Once fully operational, the CPUVMS will be implemented for Phase 2 for the City Public Utility Bus (PUB), Phase 3 for Provincial PUBs, and Phase 4 for the public vehicles of the Regional Franchising and Regulatory Office (RFRO).

Dahil po dito, nalilimitahan ang human intervention at mas napapabilis ang serbisyo ng ating mga frontline services sa sektor ng transportasyon,” pahayag ni Sec. Tugade.

“This is a milestone for the Board kasi kauna-unahang proyekto ito kung saan gumagamit po tayo ng panibago at mordernong teknolohiya in order to address monitoring and enforcement activities of the Board,” ayon kay Chairman Delgra.

The launch of the CPUVMS is in accordance with the DOTr Department Order 2017-11 or Omnibus Franchising Guidelines as well as the Public Utility Vehicle Modernization Program (PUVMP) of the government.
