Cherry Mobile Cosmos Three Unboxing, First Impressions

We first saw the Cosmos Three handset last October 2016 and it went official a month after. Jump to 2017, we finally got hold of a retail unit of Cherry’s latest Android smartphone packing some beefy specs and a large display. This is our unboxing and first impressions of the Cherry Mobile Cosmos Three.

The retail box of the Cosmos Three is simple. A black sleeve covers the main box which contains the unit and its accessories. Included in the box are a pair of in-ear headphones, a charger rated at 5V=2A, a USB-Type-C cable, and a user manual.

The unit itself is pretty big due to its 5.7-inch display. This makes the phone practically a phablet, too. If you’re looking for one, you might want to check this out.

The display has a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels so even with a generous screen real estate, it still gets a crisp pixel density at 386ppi. The display is topped with a 2.5D scratch-resistant glass although the curved edge is not that prominent. Above the display are the 8-megapixel front-facing camera, LED notification light, earpiece, a couple of sensors, and a dedicated front flash.

The left side has the hybrid card tray which accepts two micro SIM cards with the second slot also capable of reading a microSD card for storage expansion.

To the right-hand side are the physical buttons for volume and power/lock. Both are metallic with the power button sporting a concentric pattern for texture.

The top side houses the 3.5mm headphone jack. We first thought that there’s also an IR blaster but the black dot seems to be of nothing useful.

The bottom end has the USB interface using the latest reversible Type-C port. It’s sandwiched by hole drills with the loudspeaker firing from the right and the main microphone on the left.

The rear of the phone features a business-like design with a protruding main 13-megapixel rear camera. A dual-tone LED flash is positioned on its left while a rounded fingerprint scanner is located below it. The rear panel is aluminum and sealed but the top and bottom is polycarbonate to allow signals to pass through.

The phone is powered by a MediaTek Helio X20 deca-core CPU with a max clock speed of 2.11GHz. It has a Mali-T880 MP4 for graphics and 3GB of RAM. Storage-wise, it has 32GB of expandable storage with 24.62GB of usable storage.

It runs Android 6.0 Marshmallow bare and free from any customization aside from a few pre-loaded app from Cherry. The handset supports 4G LTE that’s 700MHz Band 28 ready for a faster wireless internet connection when available.

Can this handset record 4K? Cause the Helio X20 is capable of (4Kx2K 10 bit 30fps) and also the Cherry Mobile M1 can record 4K.
