Galaxy S8 drop tested, rounded corners are fragile

While we find Samsung Galaxy S8‘s Infinity Display to be the bee’s knees, it seems like it’s actually the Achilles’ heel of the handset. The folks over at test.de have conducted an extensive drop test to measure the durability of smartphones and the S8 didn’t do too well.

The German company made a contraption that drops phones from around 80 centimeters in height. The drop is done over and over and most phones survive after 100 falls with light dents and minor scratches. When done to the Galaxy S8, however, its Gorilla Glass 5 shattered just after 50 falls — proving that its curves and corners, although gorgeous, are fragile.

Touchscreen was reported to be working fine and the back panel remains intact, but the corners were the ones who took the biggest damage.

Based on the test, they concluded that it is advisable to use a phone case. It will hide the attractive curves of the handset but will protect it from unwanted drops.

What do you actually expect after 50 tries? Like, seriously?
