Nokia N9 now shipping, price starts at Php28.5k

Nokia has just posted a press release stating that the Meego-powered Nokia N9 has started shipping to stores and customers who pre-ordered it. While the shipments does not yet include the Philippines, we’re hoping it will be a matter of weeks (if not a month) before we’d see the N9 hitting local stores.

We got a good look at the Nokia N9 back in June during its announcement in Singapore. See our coverage here.

Nokia N9
3.9-inch AMOLED screen @ 854×480 pixels
ARM Cortex-A8 OMAP3630 1.0 GHz
PowerVR SGX530
1024MB RAM
16GB and 64GB internal storage
Bluetooth 2.1
WiFi 802.11 b/g/n
3G/HSDPA 14.4Mbps
Near Field Communication (NFC)
8MP autofocus camera with Carl Zeiss optics (f/2.2 aperture)
720p HD video recording @ 30fps with stereo sound
2 x LED flash
2nd front-facing camera for video calls
1450mAh battery
Meego 1.2 Harmattan

There are two variants of the Nokia N9 — the 16GB is priced at 480 euros (~Php28,500) and a 64GB variant at 560 euros (~Php33,000). Note though that these prices are before taxes and subsidies so the landed price in the Philippines will vary, give or take Php2k.

From the title, it conveys the idea that it’s already shipping to the Philippines. :) Anyway, will it definitely/officially ship here?

    I love Samsung now!

  4. Avatar for Ishi Ishi says:

With that kind of price, I’d rather go for a secondhand iPhone 3GS plus a Samsung Galaxy S.

IMHO, people will go for Android / iOS this season.

    What happened to E7? N900?

  5. Avatar for jdGONEMAD jdGONEMAD says:

I’d go for IPhone instead with that price range.

I actually wish Nokia continued Meego development like what Samsung’s doing with Bada, instead of just giving its whole self to Ballmer’s crew.

The N9’s a beautiful device, but it’s the last of its breed.

This is the flagship Qt device and definitely not the last. This will run all of android’s 250,000 apps.

  7. Avatar for Some dude Some dude says:

I’ve tried the device before (it’s in my line of work, actually). IMHO it may be worth the 28k (although I’d really want it to be lower).

Everything’s really buttery smooth, although the possible lack of apps (if it doesn’t go well) makes me worry and well, IMHO as well it’s a minus point for me.

Also, @Val it has been said in several tech sites. Well, more like they’re really vague about Meego/N9’s future but they’re gonna push through with it. Who knows, if it sells Nokia may like, avoid going the WebOS route and sell just as well, if not even better than the incoming Sea Ray and stuff.

try visiting the meego website and you’ll find out that they developed a software that would make meego devices run ALL android apps.
it got me excited. suddenly, meego devices just become a bit more attractive.
they’re more ambitious in trying to push an “across-devices” OS. imagine, running the same OS on your laptop/netbook, cellphone, tablet etc.. and thus have seamless communication across devices.
not even apple is doing it as of now (theymiht consider it in the future). their MACs and their iphones, ipods, and ipads, do not have one same OS.

Bad idea to buy this just days before iPhone 5 announcement..just sayin..

i really admire one trait of you iDIOTS.

you have this knack for visiting tech forums/reviews then simply drop the name of your overly admired fruit company and sometimes (not all the time)lash out negative opinions on the product being reviewed or talked about.

if you’re not an iDIOT then please do not give any hint of being one.

      Rivs,
Apple’s products are too expensive for Filipinos to buy, so I hope you are talking only to the few Apple fanbois.

    • Avatar for Ray Ray says:

you do know that not everyone is excited or even interested sa iphone5 right?
from what i hear the specs will be lackluster compared to other current phones and apple will try to downplay this by promoting voice recognition as an oh so magical feature. no thanks

The N9’s euro price is inclusive of VAT, so I think prices will be lower when the device hits our shores.

  10. Avatar for Shakey Shakey says:

Knowing Nokia, prices will go down after a few months. Besides, 28K is the SRP, street prices might be lower.

  11. Avatar for Val Val says:

Is it true that the N9 is going to be the last Meego-powered phone from Nokia? Are they going to be an all-Windows Phone on their next handsets?

    • Avatar for allan allan says:

Depends on market demands. If we demand Nokia’s meego-powered devices instead of WinPhone 7, then Nokia will just do like that. But we have to fire the CEO first before meego(Actually a zombie product) will move forward at Nokia.

I really hate that Elop guy. He’s going to drop MeeGo no matter what.

So it’s the last of MeeGo.

some people are overlooking the fact it can run android apps (http://liliputing.com/2011/09/openmobile-acl-lets-android-apps-run-on-meego.html)

what’s more? an android mod will come by, or whatever linux mobile OS that may emerge soon, this device is pretty costumizable, did I mention that nokia will be supporting this baby until 2016? kung ako tatanongin sulit na yan.

  16. Avatar for Chubachuchu Chubachuchu says:

It’s too darn expensive. I hope this phone will be a huge hit – I have high hopes on this one.

I’ll just wait until there will be some users’ feedback. I am not liking Android anymore; it’s so buggy. :(

    • Avatar for Sixel Sixel says:

Buggy? I have never have problems with Android before.

    • Avatar for John John says:

HAHA! another one! may isa nanamang taong naka realize na buggy ang android for everyday use..

i was an android user since the 3rd android in the world released (htc hero) and DesireHD was my last.. its a great platform, but in the end, it is still buggy.

one day, marerealize din nila yan.. Mircrosoft’s windowsphone7 and Apple’s iOS are the only OS i can recommend for everyday use.

    • Avatar for Pinoy Persuasion Pinoy Persuasion says:

@John, statistics show otherwise. Android’s market share is going up. And mind you, the Apple fanbois are more fiery in their attacks against Andtroid fans.

Not to mention that Apple, the evil company itself, is attacking Android like there is no tomorrow with their lawsuits.

I wonder where do they get their nerve when in fact, iPhone copied LG Prada which was created by LG in 2006/2007 waaaay before iPhone got invented?

LG’s CEO said it himself and if they finally decide to file a lawsuit versus Apple that will be the start of The Great War!

    • Avatar for john john says:

      @Pinoy Persuasi

did i say na instant? it took me two years to realize it.. masarap kasi talaga gamitin ang android.. sa ganda nito, hindi mo papansinin ang mga mali nito.. i enjoyed every single features of android, then one day i ask myself na bakit ganito ka komplikado to kung phone lang naman ito?

statistic? marami talaga magaandroid, kasi nga maganda sa mata at masarap gamitin.. pero im sure, hindi aabot ng 2015 ang pagiging number 1 nyan.. yung iba dyan, this year lang nakaandroid.

    • Avatar for Sixel Sixel says:

@John, I really hope that is a troll reply.

I tried all kinds of phone os and I’d got to say

      Android > iOs > Windows

    • Avatar for Esteban Trabaho Esteban Trabaho says:

Android over iOS? lol. I’ve used both and in terms of overall user experience and ease of use, iOS > Android.

Mas mataas lang ang market share ng Android kasi mas maraming manufacturers (of course since Google doesn’t charge them for its use) gumagawa as compared sa iOS na Apple lang and Android’s mostly caters to the mid-to-low income bracket. Pero sa quality of apps, Android isn’t even in the same league. And let’s not even start with fragmentation issues and the malware problems of Android.

    • Avatar for Ray Ray says:

i keep hearing you guys say that android is buggy. i personally am an android user and have not experienced this. care to elaborate from personal experience what exactly it is that is buggy?

    • Avatar for Sixel Sixel says:

Yeah that new iOS? I’ve known it since it was a copy of Android.

Apple is fine for newbies to the smartphone.

But if you want to be able to root and maximize the ability of your phone, go for Android.

I have both phones BTW, so I am not biased.

But bottom line, no matter the OS, if you’re happy with your phone, that is the only thing that matters.

What works for you might not work for somebody else.

bakit apple agad ang mga tinira nyo? lol! sabi ko pati Microsoft WP7 ok din, bakit galit na galit kayo sa apple? haha

anyway, ganyan din naman ako dati, naiintindihan ko kayo. ahaha

btw, i am not an apple fan but i have an ip4 as my primary phone and its the only apple product i own.

microsoft WP7 will be the best OS in the future maybe around 2015.. (nakagamit na ako nito with HD7, maraming kulang but it is the best OS IMO)

  18. Avatar for JKisaragi JKisaragi says:

Anyhow, I’ll just wait at least three months after its release. :)
