The Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite has been announced as the company’s next flagship chipset ahead of the 2025 Snapdragon Summit. Instead of following the vein of an ‘Elite Gen 2’ label, Qualcomm explained how the Snapdragon 8 Elite was the fourth-gen iteration via Weibo.
Here’s the flagship chips in order—Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, Snapdragon 8 Elite (Gen 4), Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5. The naming scheme will be carried over to future Snapdragon platforms to better reflect product milestones.
Without wasting a moment, Xiaomi confirmed that they’re set to leverage the new chip with the Xiaomi 17 series. This includes the Xiaomi 17, Xiaomi 17 Pro, and Xiaomi 17 Pro Max.
Interestingly, Xiaomi skipped the ‘16’ line entirely to directly compete with Apple’s iPhone 17 series. In addition, the new chipset is also slated to power the Samsung Galaxy S26 series.
Branding-wise, it’s highly possible that the chip will be touted as ‘Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy’. We’ll update readers should we get further news on the upcoming devices packing the new processor.
