Starting April 30, 2024, AirBnB will ban the use of indoor cameras in all listings, globally. They have also added a more comprehensive rule on he use of outdoor cameras and other smart devices.
Historically, Airbnb allowed the use of indoor security cameras in common areas of listings, such as hallways and living rooms, as long as they were disclosed on the listing page before booking, clearly visible and were not located in spaces like sleeping areas and bathrooms. The update to this policy simplifies our approach and makes clear that security cameras are not allowed inside listings, regardless of their location, purpose or prior disclosure.
Here’s the summary of the new policy:
1) No cameras are allowed that monitor indoor activities.
2) Need to disclose outdoor cameras.
3) Outdoor cameras are not allowed in spaces where guests expect more privacy (like enclosed saunas and showers, etc.)
4) Need to disclose noise decibel monitors which may only be installed in common spaces.
5) Smart TVs and voice assistants are allowed, but it is encouraged that they be disclosed as well.
6) Does not apply to outdoor cameras that hosts do not control (like building apartments, condos, etc.)
