Firefox for Android brings big update on user interface and security

Listen to article

Firefox for Android gets a new update, showcasing a redesigned user interface and additional security features.

For the interface, the mobile web browser allows users to set the address bar either at the bottom or top of the screen. It adds productivity tools such as Collections for organizing tabs, Picture-in-Picture for watching videos and browsing the web in one place, light and dark themes with automatic switching, and optimized support for up to 10 third-party add-ons. The latter feature will add more options in the future.

Significant changes in privacy and security include Enhanced Tracking Protection for keeping ad trackers at bay and using Standard mode, as well as an improved Private Mode for on-the-go private browsing.

The Firefox for Android is now based on GeckoView, Mozilla’s own mobile browser engine, which provides faster performance.

Android users may now update the app through Google Play Store. It will be available in North America on August 27.
