Gemini 1.5 Pro is getting a dedicated app, slated to have new and old features all in one place. Google also mentions that the new features are compatible with Gemini’s web version.

Google had tons of updates to share at their recent event, but this is perhaps the most promising. After all, it’s clear that the company aims to compete with the new features shown off by OpenAI recently.
Gemini 1.5 Pro can now process up to an hour of video content, codebases with more than 30,000 lines of code, and 1,500-page documents. This is made possible, largely thanks to the new Gemini app’s long context window.
Google defines this as the “longest of any widely available consumer chatbot in the world”.
Among the new features are also integrations with Google Drive for file analysis and improved image comprehension.
We also have Gemini Live, which is an Advanced subscriber feature. This looks to be the model taking on the GPT-4o head-to-head. Judging from its demo, it’s relatively close to conversing with an actual person and not an AI-powered assistant.
For example, Google discussed preparing for a job interview or rehearsing for speeches, and told people to “just go live and ask Gemini to help you”. Gemini will suggest skills you may highlight when talking to a potential employer, or give you public speaking tips to help you ease up.
Next, we have Gems. These are customized versions of Gemini tailored to your needs. Google suggests potential users to give a Gem certain roles for better integration. If you need a gym buddy, a sous chef, coding partner, or creative writing guide—the new Gemini is a safe bet.
Lastly, Google is still working towards adding more integrations with their own apps. Presently, they’re working on rolling out a YouTube Music Extension for Gemini that helps users find music if they don’t know the title. The AI model hopes to help your inquiries, so long as you can provide a song verse or relative artist.
Gemini Pro 1.5 will only be available to Gemini Advanced subscribers in 150 countries and over 35 languages. From the looks of it, it’s looking great to ride the hype for this new updated AI model.
