Google adds ‘People’ location sharing on Find My Device

Listen to article

Google is rolling out a major update to its Find My Device app that allows users to share their location conveniently.

In addition to the apparent UI changes, there’s a new ‘People’ tab that shows a map of a user’s friends and family members who are sharing their location with you.

This feature is currently in beta testing but is now available for use. So far, users can choose which people they’d like to share their location with and set a time limit for how long their location will be accessible. There’s also an option to share a location via a link.

While location sharing is already available in Google Maps, Android’s Find My Device app makes it more convenient to see both your devices and people in one place.

The update is now live on the Google Play Store, with the latest version being 3.1.277-4 as of this writing.
