President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has officially raised the fare discounts to 50% for persons with disabilities (PWDs), senior citizens, and students. This is applied to Metro Manila’s major railway systems, which includes MRT 3, LRT 1, and LRT 2.

This announcement was made during the fourth State of the Nation Address (SONA). Marcos said that qualified passengers are now entitled to a 50% fare discount when riding the MRT 3, LRT 1, and LRT 2 lines.
This is a highly notable increase from its previous rate at 20% under three laws. It covers the Expanded Senior Citizens Act, Student Fare Discount Act, and Magna Carta for Persons with Disability
‘Ang dating dalawampung porsyentong diskuwento sa LRT at MRT para sa PWD, sa senior, at sa estudyante, ay itinaas na natin sa limampung porsyento na diskuwento,’ said Marcos during his address.
Translation: ‘The past 20% discount for LRT and MRT for PWD, seniors, and students, had been raised to a 50% discount’.
In addition to fare relief, Marcos also said the government is working to fully operationalize Dalian trains. These are the long-idle train units procured in 2014, but have yet to see consistent service on MRT 3.
