Qualcomm is claiming that AI PCs will cost less than the latest iPhone in a recent earnings call.
CEO Cristiano Amon promises that the Snapdragon X Elite lineup will dip into prices lower than USD 700 (~PHP 41K) by 2025. Qualcomm also says that even with lower prices, the company will keep the devices’ performance consistent.
Having been in development throughout the year, AI-powered PCs are seen as the future of personal computers. The addition of NPUs promises high-end performance with less hardware in comparison to computers before.
Less components translate to less production costs, so it’s only a matter of time before prices drop to affordable segments. The growth of AI and how it affects computers today speaks for itself.
As soon as Microsoft announced Copilot+ PCs, devices like the ASUS Vivobook S 15 13 came out of nowhere. However, most devices are still priced at roughly USD 1000 (~PHP 58K).
Going back, Qualcomm had extra news aside from promising lower prices for AI PCs. In September, more brands are slated to announce more devices powered by the Snapdragon X Elite.
The upcoming launches should be in time for the IFA in Berlin. Overall, we’re excited to see how the coming years pan out when and if a laptop could cost less than a flagship phone.
