Samsung confirms Bixby generative AI update this year

Listen to article

Samsung has confirmed that Bixby will be receiving a generative AI update later this year.

As surprising as it is, Bixby is still up and running. Notably though, it will get its own large language models. In other words, Samsung will develop Bixby without a partnership (for now) with Google nor OpenAI.

In addition, Samsung Mobile Division President TM Roh noted that they will allow multiple voice assistants on their devices. Users will have the new Bixby and Gemini as options.

“We’re going to advance Bixby with application of Gen AI technology. We are reinforcing and bringing more AI capabilities to our products. As consumers use more AI capabilities they can actually feel the convenience and benefits they bring”, said Roh.

“I strongly believe that AI is a strong motivation and driver for the purchase of new products”, he added.

Presently, we assume that this update will ship as part of One UI 7 for Android 15. While we have yet to gather details on its timeline, we’ll update readers if anything comes up.
