Spotify updates Shuffle feature with Fewer Repeats option

Listen to article

Spotify has updated their Shuffle feature, which now has the options to retain Standard Shuffle or choose Fewer Repeats. This follows the app’s ongoing improvements to users’ listening experience.

Users can still have Standard Shuffle enabled under settings. However, the new Fewer Repeats option will now be set by default for Premium users.

Fewer Repeats takes your recently played songs into account and makes them less likely to play again. Spotify says the new update will keep the listening experience more engaging by removing the same tracks.

This follows this year’s additions for listening control such as the ability to exclude songs from your Taste Profile. Premium users can also still toggle off Smart Shuffle should they prefer it.

If users prefer the old Standard Shuffle, simply go to Spotify Settings, select Playback, and choose your Standard Shuffle. Notably, at the time of writing, the new feature hasn’t rolled out to devices in the Philippines.
