Wi-Tribe Philippines did a soft launch recently offering WiMax broadband internet in Metro Manila. The San Miguel and QTel partnership is a solid one that could prove to be a formidable challenger to the current broadband internet market. Sky Broadband reps tell me the theoretical speed is 112Mbps down and 5Mbps up. Existing Sun Postpaid Subscribers can also avail of the Wireless Broadband plan for an additional Php649 on their MSF. It operates on PLDT’s fiber network, which spans approximately 1.2 million cable kilometers, reaching 18.76 million homes across 91% of provinces and 73% of towns in the Philippines.
