Frequently Asked Questions

What is the latest update on the EDSA rehabilitation project?

As of June 1, 2025, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has put the EDSA rehabilitation project on pause for further study. The initial plan was a three-year project to replace damaged pavement with reinforced concrete, starting June 13, 2025, from Pasay to Shaw Boulevard. The suspension aims to find ways to shorten the project duration, potentially to six months to a year, and lessen traffic impact. The existing number coding scheme remains in effect.

What is the EDSA Busway System and how do you pay for it?

The EDSA Busway System is a dedicated median bus lane that transports commuters from Monumento to PITX and vice versa, reducing travel time to less than an hour. Since October 1, 2020, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) has mandated a cashless transaction system using beep cards for boarding. Physical cash is not accepted on these buses. Beep cards can be reloaded at LRT/MRT stations, FamilyMart, Ministop, Bayad Center, and via digital partners like BPI.

What are some past and proposed traffic schemes for EDSA?

Several schemes have been implemented or proposed to decongest EDSA. These include: restricting provincial buses on the Cubao to Pasay section during peak hours (since July 2018); a proposed (but not implemented) 'car brand coding' system to restrict specific brands on certain days; prohibiting public utility jeepneys (PUJs) along the entire stretch (as announced in 2017); and extending the 'no-window' number coding scheme from 7:00 AM to 8:00 PM on weekdays (since 2016). San Miguel Corporation also proposed a 10-lane elevated tollway in 2019.
