OpenAI is officially shutting down its Sora platform. OpenAI confirmed the shutdown affects both the consumer app and its web tools for video generation. Alongside the closure, OpenAI is also ending its content partnership with The Walt Disney Company. OpenAI’s image generation tools in ChatGPT remain unaffected by the move. OpenAI is reportedly developing a unified desktop app that will combine ChatGPT, its browser and the Codex coding tool into a single platform. According to reports from CNBC and The Wall Street Journal, the project will be led by Fidji Simo, OpenAI’s Chief of Applications with support from Greg Brockman. The shift comes as OpenAI looks to combine its efforts after expanding across several products. OpenAI is reportedly planning to integrate its AI video generation model Sora directly into ChatGPT.
