Back in June, local courier Air 21 bought the Barako Bulls PBA franchise, their second team in the league. Today, it’s been confirmed that the team will be renamed as Shopinas.com Clickers.
The news came out as the CEO of Air 21 spoke at the IMMAP Summit today:
Shiela Lina, President/CEO of Air 21 Global reveals their “Shopinas.com Clickers” will replace Barako Bulls franchise in PBA.
Air 21 also operates Shopinas.com, launched last year, as an online shopping store.
Renaming a PBA team after a website is a first for the PBA and Air21 seems very serious in pushing the brand to the masses. It’s reported that Bert Lina (father of Shiela Lina) bought Barako Bulls in excess of Php50USD 0.85INR 72EUR 0.81CNY 6 million.
It’s surprising that Air21 would spend that much for branding of Shopinas.com but its effect remains to be seen.
To be frank though, Shopinas.com Clickers doesn’t sound like a basketball team to me.
Air21 CEO responds on Twitter:
To all bashing the shopinas.com clickers name, hey, it got your attention didn’t it? Isn’t that what engagement is all about? #immap
Now that’s what I call bullish.

Shopinas.com Clickers…it really doesn’t sound a basketball team. More of a cheering squad.

Multiply.com I hear doomsday.
Rommel A. says:
Oh man, I remember this franchise made so many deals involving trading players for what? Yes, in just a CLICK they will trade another blue chip player in exchange for either cash or a wash up player to either Petron or Talk and Text franchises, for them its all business and no real passion in basketball…just saying what I observed with them although it enhances promoting their business through PBA.
tmcr says:
The PBA teams used to represent prestigious products of the company. Now, you only have Derby Ace, a chicken feed. And now, this. This is a sign that PBA is a dying league.

I just signed up to try and penetrate the Philippine market with my products/services. While the interface isn’t great comparing it to Shopify or Bigcartel, with the PBA exposure it could have potential. I wonder what the estimated % of visitors and buyers are per game. 1% of viewers will visit the site and .02% will buy?
