0:00350,000 pesos is a lot of money. You can
0:03do a lot with that. Invest it in the
0:05stock market, build your portfolio,
0:07build a business, buy a secondhand car
0:10for transportation, or even a fancy
0:12watch for yourself. Alternatively, you
0:14could also buy what is arguably one of
0:17the most powerful gaming laptops on the
0:19market today, the 2025 ROG Stricks Scar
0:2318. To give you an idea, the Stricks
0:25Scar 18 packs an Intel Core Ultra 9 CPU,
0:28an RTX 5090 GPU, and 64 GB of RAM. With
0:32that, it can very much run anything you
0:34throw at it. And I mean that in a
0:36literal sense. But is the price worth
0:38all of the specs and features this
0:40laptop offers, or should you build a PC
0:42instead? Or better yet, should you
0:44invest that 350,000 somewhere else?
0:47Well, let’s find out in this review of
0:49the Asus ROG Stricks Scar 18.
0:58Before we go into the goods packed into
0:59the ROG Stricks car 18, let’s talk about
1:01the design of the gaming laptop.
1:03Compared to 2024 model, there’s one big
1:06change ASUS made to the design of the
1:08stricks car 18. It now features the
1:11anime vision LED matrix originally found
1:13on the Zephros models. The LED matrix
1:15isn’t as big as the one found on the
1:17Zephorus, but it’s a nice addition to
1:19have. Users can fully customize the
1:21appearance of the dot matrix to their
1:22liking via the Armory Crate menu. And
1:25personally, I change it every so often
1:27just for the heck of it. Aside from the
1:29anime LED matrix, the rest of the laptop
1:31remains largely unchanged, at least from
1:34the surface. There’s still the huge RGB
1:36back lit ROG logo on the right side of
1:38the lid. In case people don’t know what
1:40laptop you’re using, I personally like
1:42the ROG logo with the new anime LED
1:45matrix design, but I’m sure some of you
1:47will prefer a more minimalist styling.
1:50But hey, this is a topsp spec gaming
1:52laptop after all. And like before, it
1:54retains the all black design from the
1:56lid to the base with the premium feel
1:58you would expect from an ROG laptop.
2:00Though it’s a bit more subtle, Asus also
2:02redesigned the intake and exhaust vents
2:03of the Stricks Scar 18 for 2025. At the
2:06base of the laptop, the vents on the
2:07sides are slimmer and the exhaust ports
2:09are now located at the rear. As a result
2:11of this subtle design change, there’s
2:13even more RGB all around the base and it
2:16wraps around the entire laptop,
2:18including the rear. And personally, it
2:20gives off a lot of aura points when you
2:22turn it on. It also reminds me of the
2:24underglow of cars. Similar to last
2:26year’s model, the interior lid and the
2:28base is still made out of plastic. It’s
2:30a nice kind of plastic though, and it
2:32does feel nice to the touch. However, it
2:33does have the same premium feel as
2:35compared to a metal one, but personally,
2:38it’s very much livable with. What I
2:39didn’t like about it though is that it
2:41isn’t exactly smudge resistant. You can
2:43easily leave fingerprints and residue,
2:45especially if you eat while you game,
2:47and it’s also a bit hard to clean. You
2:49really need to get in there to get it
2:50off. Okay, wrong choice of words, but
2:52okay. This being an 18-in laptop, you
2:55get a full-size keyboard at your
2:57disposal. It also comes with dedicated
2:59keys for the volume control, mic, mute,
3:02unmute, performance mode, and even the
3:04armory crate. And of course, all of
3:06these keys are RGB back lit, and they
3:08can do custom colors at your disposal.
3:11They’re properly spaced out, and the
3:13keys look identical to the one in the
3:152024 model. However, they do feel a bit
3:18different as compared to other ROG
3:20keyboards I’ve tried recently. They
3:21require a bit more effort to press and
3:23the travel is a bit longer. It did take
3:25me a few days before I got used to these
3:27keys, but they feel great. I was able to
3:30type rather fast and accurately, which
3:32includes writing the entire script for
3:34this video and even writing the entire
3:36review. More importantly, my fingers
3:38didn’t get tired after all of that
3:40typing. Instead, what made typing not so
3:42comfortable was the new front edge of
3:45the laptop where my arms and wrists are
3:47resting. They have a bit of a sharper
3:49profile, which meant that there were
3:50some marks left on my arms after I was
3:53typing for a while. As for the trackpad,
3:55it’s a bit bigger than before. It still
3:57feels nice to the touch. More
3:58importantly, it is very accurate when
4:00you’re playing around with it. I like
4:01the mechanical build with the physical
4:03clicks that you can actually hear when
4:05you use it. Despite the size increase,
4:07it features good palm rejection. In
4:09fact, I didn’t even need to use a mouse
4:11most of the time when I’m out and about.
4:12Mainly because it’s already too bulky.
4:15And this brings us to the topic of the
4:17size of the laptop. It’s not exactly the
4:20most portable laptop out there given how
4:22huge and heavy it is. In fact, I’m
4:25already having a hard time just carrying
4:27it in this A-roll. It’s almost 400 mm
4:30long, and when closed, it’s still 32 mm
4:32thick. As for the weight, 3.3 kg. It’s
4:36so big, it doesn’t even fit my usual
4:38bag. And I even had to bring a different
4:40bag with me just so I can bring it
4:41around wherever I go. And yes, of
4:43course, I still bring it around. I mean,
4:45who doesn’t want to fararm with this?
4:47Fortunately, because of its big size,
4:49you do have a lot of ports at your
4:50disposal for peripherals, SSD, mouse,
4:53and even controllers. Sadly, no SD or
4:55even micro SD card slot here, which I
4:58think is a missed opportunity if you’re
5:00someone who’s in the creative business.
5:02Now, let’s move on to the part of the
5:03laptop you’ll be looking at the most,
5:06the display. The display of the 2025 ROG
5:09Stricks Car 18 remains unchanged from
5:12last year. still features an 18inch 2.5K
5:15miniLEDD panel with a 240 Hz refresh
5:17rate or as ASUS calls it the ROG Nebula
5:20HDR display. It also supports Dolby
5:23Vision which you can turn on via the
5:24Dolby Atmos app. As expected from this
5:27display, you have vibrant colors and
5:30with the 240 Hz refresh rate, the
5:31movements are super smooth even if
5:33you’re just playing around in the menu.
5:35With the Dolby Atmos app, you can even
5:37adjust whether you’re watching something
5:38dark, bright, or vivid. But for this
5:40review, I’m set it mainly to vivid
5:42because I really want to get the nice
5:44colors. And given how big the screen is,
5:46it’s also great for watching videos in a
5:48group. I definitely enjoyed binge
5:50watching my favorite movies and animes
5:51on this laptop. Given how vivid the
5:53screen colors are and how deep the
5:55blacks can be, but aside from the
5:57display being vivid, the colors are
5:59quite accurate, too. You do need to turn
6:01on HDR since it isn’t turned on at the
6:03start, which is a bit weird. And the SDR
6:05colors aren’t that great, and they do
6:07look a bit oversaturated. But when I
6:10turned it to HDR, I didn’t even need to
6:11calibrate it, and the output was very
6:13similar to my monitor at home, which is
6:15calibrated by Spyder. But of course,
6:18what’s productivity, right? You’ll
6:20appreciate this display the most when
6:21you’re gaming. The vivid colors work
6:23well with the 240 Hz refresh rate,
6:25giving you a very immersive visual
6:27experience when you’re playing games.
6:29With the power of the laptop packs, it
6:30can also run games at the highest
6:32settings, too. But more on that later.
6:33And it’s not just the visuals that pull
6:35you in when you’re using the ROG Stricks
6:37Car 18. The speakers are equally
6:39amazing, too. This laptop features a
6:41four speaker system and is complemented
6:43by Dolby Atmos. Even without Dolby Atmos
6:46set to dynamic in the Dolby Access app,
6:48you already have a great sound stage and
6:50clear mids. It lacks a bit of bass for
6:52my liking, but that’s to be expected
6:54with laptop speakers. What’s more
6:56important for me though is the sound
6:57stage as you can be immersed not just
7:00visually, but also audibly. And best of
7:02all, it’s very loud too. And there’s no
7:05distortions either with the speakers
7:07maxed out. Now we get to the good part,
7:10the performance. Our review unit of the
7:132025 Stricks car 18 is the topsp spec
7:16variant. As mentioned earlier, it packs
7:18an Intel Core Ultra 9, 275HX processor,
7:2164 GB of DDR5 RAM, 2 TB of SSD storage,
7:25and an Nvidia RTX 5090 GPU. If you need
7:29more storage, you can open up the back
7:30and add more. The same goes for the RAM.
7:32As with any ROG device, you can choose
7:34the performance mode you’re in. Of
7:37course, when you’re plugged in, I always
7:38set it to turbo mode to maximize the
7:40performance of this laptop. You can even
7:42tinker with the settings yourself in
7:44manual mode to max out the settings. But
7:47of course, do this at your own
7:48discretion. The last thing you want is
7:50to break a 350,000 gaming laptop because
7:53you overclocked everything in something
7:55just effed up. On paper alone, you
7:58already know that Asus fitted all the
8:00topsp specs parts available during the
8:02launch of this laptop. With that, we’re
8:04not surprised it scored amazing in
8:06almost all of the benchmarks we ran. But
8:08benchmarks only tell one part of the
8:10story. What we were more interested in
8:12was the performance in real life. And as
8:15expected, it could easily handle almost
8:17all our productivity apps
8:18simultaneously. We mean running
8:20Premiere, Photoshops, and Lightroom all
8:22together. And the Strict Scar 18 didn’t
8:24slow down. Of course, the fan started to
8:26spin up and it became a bit more
8:28noisier, but that’s to be expected. And
8:30even with all of these apps running, you
8:32can still load your favorite games. Work
8:35and play allin-one. With Premiere
8:37running in the background, Genchin,
8:38Ready or Not, and even Forza Horizon 5
8:41still ran smoothly without any issues.
8:43Mind you, all of these games were run
8:45with the graphics settings maxed out. I
8:47even tried running two games at once,
8:50and the Scar 18 could even handle it.
8:52The laptop did heat up a bit, and the
8:54fans became even louder when I did this.
8:56But the important thing is the frame
8:58rates for either game were consistent.
9:01For better reference, on Force Horizon
9:025, I had a consistent frame rate of
9:04around 140 plus with all of the graphic
9:06settings maxed out. It’s a similar story
9:08when I was playing Ready or Not that
9:10featured a lot of mods. So, there’s no
9:13doubting the performance of the ROG
9:15Stricks R18. The fans can get really
9:17loud when you’re in turbo mode and
9:18running games, but if you’re just using
9:20it to get work done on silent mode,
9:22you’ll barely hear it at all. Despite
9:25how big this laptop is, the 2025 Stricks
9:27Scar 18 packs a 90Wh hour battery, which
9:30is similar to the other ROG laptops of
9:32this generation. But as expected from a
9:34gaming laptop, especially one of this
9:36size, you don’t exactly have the best
9:38battery life. You get the most battery
9:40life when you’re just in silent mode and
9:42working on productivity tasks. These
9:44include Google Sheets, Spotify, Discord,
9:46and with RGB turned off, but you’re
9:48still connected to Wi-Fi. From my
9:50experience, I did have around 4 to 5
9:51hour of battery life with this exact
9:53setup when I was trying to get work
9:56done. But when you’re in performance
9:57mode, it uses up a lot more juice. After
10:00just 30 minutes of playing Tekken 8,
10:02which just maxed out settings, I only
10:04had around 60 to 58% battery life left.
10:07With that in mind, you’ll find yourself
10:09looking for a charger or even an outlet
10:11quite often. Even if you just plan to
10:13get work done, you can just bring the
10:15smaller 100 W USBC charger with you. But
10:18if you plan to play games and use turbo
10:20mode, you’ll need to bring the big 380 W
10:23charger, which is really big and weighs
10:25a lot. With everything it can do, the
10:282025 ROG Stricks car 18 seems like the
10:32perfect gaming laptop. It’s a bit on the
10:34heavier and bigger size, but if you can
10:36work around with it, you can play all of
10:39the latest games without any issues
10:41wherever you are. There’s just one big
10:44problem, and it’s a big one. The price.
10:47The 2025 ROG Stricks car 18 with the
10:50same spec as ours retails for 348,990
10:54pesos. That’s a lot of money to drop for
10:57a gaming laptop. If you’re shocked at
10:59that price, well, I don’t blame you. And
11:01honestly, if you look around, you might
11:02be able to get the 2024 version of the
11:04Scar 18 for almost 100,000 pesos less.
11:07And by comparison, that is still a very
11:09powerful laptop today, even with just a
11:114090. But if you’re a big player and
11:14want to aura farm wherever you go, can’t
11:16go wrong with the 2025 ROG Stricks Scar
11:1918. You just have to pay to play,
11:21literally. Would I get one if I had a
11:23budget? Definitely. Still, what do you
11:26think of the 2025 ROG Stricks car 18?
11:29Would you rather spend your 350,000
11:31pesos here or buy something else?
