XBox 360 recall?

Listen to article

XBox 360While shopping for a gaming console last week-end, I asked around the mall how much the big 3 were selling for. The Sony PS3 is now at Php32,000+; the Nintendo Wii at Php16,000+ and the Microsoft XBox 360 at Php19,000+. The bundle comes with controls and several games. These prices are way cheaper than what they used to be early this year.

What I specifically noticed was the absence of XBox 360 consoles in several shops and when I asked one of the sales ladies, she explained that the XBox 360 were pulled out by Microsoft because of defective motherboards. Apparently, she says a lot of customers return their units because of such defects. That’s weird because several friends I know who has the console have had them for months without much problem.

I searched online for any cases related to this but the only ones I’ve stumbled into are the old issues. There aren’t any in recent months. The wikipedia entry for XBox 360 does not mention anything.

Is it possible these units are the really old ones? Anybody else who has an XBox 360 knows about this? I haven’t asked the shops in GreenHills though if they have the same issues.

I bought a 360 in February. We started having problems with it locking up mid-game in May, bought a cooler fan in July thinking that’d help…it did for a few days. So we just resorted to watching DVDs on it…now, here it is mid-August and it will no longer even boot up. X( I am not pleased!

i heard about the ring of death of the 360,i have a premium edition and also bought a core system it here in denmark for only a 1000kroner thats equivalent to 7500psp the good thing about the store here is they wil give you a 2year warranty, and if you are not satisfied to the product that you bought you can send it back to them and get your money back..consumers are very important to them, unlike in manila,no return,no exchange..i also want to buy a nintendo Wii but the games are very xpensive..when u buy a nintendo Wii herein denmark or norway, they incude a Wii SPORT for free

hi!

http://digg.com/xbox_360/Microsoft_Announces_3_Year_360_Warrenty_Extension

got this from digg, seems M$ might be extending the one year warranty of the xbox to 3 years, for only a specific type of error.

guys, it is true that there are problems with Xbox. According to the news, the rate of Xbox failure is between 30 to 33 percent!

once the xbox heats up to a certain level, it dies and is beyond repair. i read of someone who had to have his xbox 360 changed more than 10 times.

higher likelyhood of it occuring here as we live in such a hot country.

I’ve read posts on the Red Ring of Death and all. Never had the opportunity to own Xbox – am still loyal to the PS – PS3 is great! The Wii is also fun to have around during large gatherings.

Oh, by the way, you may want to check this out – Top 10 Richest People in Tech (though, exclude number 11, kabayan).

yep, they say that it is as high as 30%. as for recall, no, Msoft didnt issue any overt announcement. although they have started refitting returned 360s (3rl, etc) with an additional gpu cooler.

swertehan lang din naman 3 red lights of death, sometimes it occurs after you dont play your 360 for a long time (dust buildup on the cooler?) , others say its due to electrical spikes. who actually knows?

even the elite version is said to have a similar failure rate (but given the sold units…)

wag na kayo bumili sa mall. get one from those with a 1 year replacement warranty.

Also, the Msoft “banhammer” is still in effect for modded consoles. so unless, you wanna just play offline, orig is still the way to go for us XBL fans.

I haven’t heard anything about a recall, but the 360 is notoriously unreliable. Microsoft won’t release the exact rate of failure but the consensus seems to be that it’s at least 30%.

That said, there’s some great games on the 360 that you’ll have a blast playing when your unit isn’t in for repairs. Good luck finding one!

There’s a problem with 360’s m-board? I’m not having one. Must be the really old models/units, then again now I’m starting to be paranoid.
