LG’s new XNote S210 seems to be right in the fence between a regular laptop and a netbook. It comes with 12.1″ screen yet only weighs like a netbook at 1kg so we’ll put it under the ultraportable category.
I rounded up three (3) UMPC in the 8.9 inch range and set them side by side to see which one gets your money’s worth — Acer Aspire One, HP 2133 Mini-note and the Asus Eee PC 900. Just like our 7-inch round-up, this chart will hopefully help you in your next purchase.
A recent report from the Digitimes indicate first quarter laptop shipments for 2008 showed HP, Dell and Acer were the top 3 laptop manufacturers with 20.8%, 15.1% and 14.6% shares respectively. That represents just over 50% of total shipments or 15.67 Millions units.

When Intel dropped out of the One Laptop Per Child (OLPC) Project, it immediately went to work on it’s own Intel-powered version of the XO, the ClassMate PC. Just recently, Intel partnered with Neo to commercially launch the Neo Explore X1, a cheap laptop targeted to kids. The challenge though is obvious — how to sell them to their target market.
