Nokia X, X+, and XL, won’t get X software platform 2.0

Microsoft has announced that its older Nokia X devices – the X, X+, and XL, won’t get the new X software platform 2.0.

The Nokia X software platform 2.0, which is now running in the recently announced Nokia X2, is based on Android 4.3 Jellybean (vs Android 4.1.2 on platform 1.x). It came with a lot of enhancements like a better home screen, simpler navigation, better multitasking, new camera UI, improved keyboard, and the Fastlane notifications screen.

The bad news is, Nokia X, X+, and XL users, won’t get to enjoy the new features due to hardware limitations. However, it will still receive maintenance updates to keep them running smoothly.

“Because of the necessary hardware upgrades, the Nokia X software platform 2.0 won’t be available on Nokia X, Nokia X+ or Nokia XL. However, more updates will be coming to further improve the experience of those devices in the coming months.” – Yannis Paniaras, Head of the Mobile Phones UX Design Studio at Microsoft in Beijing.

So if you’re just planning on getting the Nokia X, better hold off and just wait for the Nokia X2.

Actually software update is not that really important specially on low end to mid end phones, as long you can use your phone it already fine. Updating most of the time will render your old phone run slower than the original. My experience with GS4 and iPad 3, both devices became slower after updating to new version of its OS, iPad3 is the worst after I updated it to iOS7.

actually si microsoft na ang nagcontrol sa hardware ni nokia. microsoft is just using the brand nokia so it can sell more phones. but the decision in the software updates directly came from microsoft not from nokia. and also proud owner of Nokia N9 and still using it till to date :)

Rule of Thumb: Wag bibili ng first generation ng mga gadgets. Parang final stage ng prototyping yan eh. Tapos kayo ang mga lab rats. LOL

Typical of MicroShit. You buy their hardware and you get shafted. Just like when Windowsphone came out. They announced a new version of the firmware but its not compatible with previous Nokia phones. You have to buy the new ones.

LOL stupid comment from a stupid person. All WP8 phone are compatible to all upcoming WP8 updates even 8.1. WP7 was old and the hardware was old that’s why they did not let them update to WP8.
