La Paz Batchoy

Nothing beats a good hearty meal of La Paz Batchoy.

batchoy

Yugatech 728x90 Reno7 Series

Ever since I was a kid, growing up in Guimaras and Iloilo, batchoy has been on top of my fave food list along with arroz caldo and pancit molo. And to this day, everytime I get the chance to go back home and visit my family and friends, I make it a point to eat at Ted’s Old Timer La Paz Batchoy, one of the best batchoy joints in the metro.

Batchoy goes very well with puto manapla. If you are in Manila but want to try it, Bacolod Chicken Inasal serves them — just ask for the Super Special with egg and extra chicharon. ;)

Cool, I finally stumbled to a site about this! I was daydreaming about it this morning (well technically evening dreaming as it was evening time ) and now I discover this site. Coincidence alright. Might be checking back!

damn, batchoy is my favorite gid ya! the best ang Ted’s La Paz Batchoy, that’s why I always go to SM Sucat just to eat batchoy. Ok kay mga ilonggo gid ya ga serve, unlike sa iban nga ga claim la paz batchoy man daw ila luto, pero wala gid sa kalingkingan ang lasa sa original-batchoy maker – Ted’s.

Batchoy, ang sabaw ya ginlaga nga tul-an sang pork.. lots of
spices. Actually, mi lola owns a carinderia in Iloilo. Dugay na ko wala ka puli sa Iloilo.. I miss Iloilo na.

To manny aquino…i beg to disagree with you about beef in lapaz batchoy…authentic lapaz batchoy is pork based. In the old days, beef is only used as a substitute if the supply of pork is not available or pork has run out. Ilonggo’s will laugh at you if you will insist that lapaz batchoy is beef. Again, lapaz batchoy is pork based, that includes the broth, the meat, and the innards. Pork lahat yan pati na ang chicharon na topping.

    Hi Manny,

I will ask around for that info. Haven’t gone back to Iloilo for almost 3 years now.

Will get back to you when I have something.

    Cheers!

Oh yah…one more comment….the Ted’s La Paz Batchoy in Bicutan uses pork and not beef. Batchoy is supposed top be authentically and originally beef.

    Wala lang…

    Thanks again.

    Hi Yuga !

Was searching the net for authentic or historical definitions of Batchoy and Inasal and I came across your blog. Anyway, the reason I write is to find out from you, a true blue Ilonggo, if you know of someone who can supply me with true Ilonggo sncaks and delicacies. I am planning to put up a small Inasal and Batchoy Resto and I wanted to put an Ilonggo take home Snack counter which features the authentic Ilonggo Munchies — barquillos, pinsugbo, piyaya…etcetera. I spoke with the owner of Biscocho House at wala silang distribution outlet sa Manila. I plan to call De Ocampo…BUT what I wanted to know is if by chance you know of some new young Ilonggo enterpreneurs who are also into production of genuine Ilonggo snacks.

    Yun Lang…Thanks for reading !

There are times when I crave for batchoy and nothing but nothing can take its place. I have a friend who’s now in Las Vegas and each time she comes hope she buys Lucky Me La Paz Batchoy to bring home to the US and while she’s here, she eats it almost everyday!
