Cherry Mobile G2 First Impressions

Cherry Mobile has recently announced the successor of the CM G1 Watch Phone and we thought of sharing our initial thoughts about it while we’re still prepping for the full review.

As far as design goes, the new Cherry Mobile G2 looks nothing like its predecessor. Gone are the sliding form factor with physical (and tiny if we may add) keyboard underneath the actual watch.

Instead we’re left with a respectable looking timepiece with a smooth rubberized finish and a 1.44-inch touchscreen display on the front. The latter is neighbored by three multi-purpose buttons that can be used to control the G2 or some of the features of the smartphone that it’s paired to.

Found at the top portion of the IP-certified smartwatch (IP54) is a VGA camera and a microphone on the other end.

The wristband of the CM G2 has a commendable quality. One end of the wristband terminates to a piece of plastic with two locking mechanisms that latches on the adjustment holes of the top rubber wristband. This plastic strip also hides the male USB which is used to charge the device.

The other rubber strap terminates to a metal case back with two buckle tongues that latches on to the right wristband.

The touchscreen display of the CM G2 got a slight shot in the arm from its predecessor, but it’s still not at par with high-end smartwatches from international brands. In most cases, the touchscreen interface did a fair job of detecting and reacting to touch inputs, although there’s still a lot of room for improvements.

By and large, we’re glad to report that Cherry Mobile has picked the right smartwatch to be the successor of the G1 Watch Phone. On the design and build standpoint, the G2 is a relatively huge upgrade to the first model and has a more respectable appeal compared to the clunky and toyish look of the G1 Watch Phone.

Cherry Mobile G2 specs:
1.44-inch LCD display
4GB internal storage
VGA camera
Bluetooth
Pedometer
500mAh battery
Dimension: 228 x 38 x 15mm
Weight: 66g

The Cherry Mobile G2 will be retailed for Php1,899. Our full review should be up in a couple weeks, so be sure to check back with us for it.

Asar ting g2 kakabili ko lng tapos cra agad ung ribbon sa loob.. Mga sir at mam ingat na lng at wag bumili nito. Madaling masira ung ribbon na nakaconnect sa charger plug. Ginawa tlga to para mas madaling masira at madala sa service center nila. Asar tlga..

Just a warning to those who are planning to buy the Cherry Mobile G2 smart watch. The lock easily gets broken and it will void your warranty once it happens. I bought a G2 smart watch last Dec. 21 but when I went home I noticed na wala na yung isang lock sa bracelet as you can see on the picture I uploaded. When I brought the unit for warranty (still w/in 7 days replacement) ang sabi sa akin ng store they cannot replace it and dalhin ko daw sa service center instead. When I brought it to the service center ayaw palitan ang unit and void na daw ang warranty kasi may missing part. Considering that the lock got broken on the same day I bought it and under normal use, I think I deserve to get a replacement unit and hindi dapat ma void ang warranty. I will file a complaint to DTI and make sure to tell this story to all my friends, relatives and social media. I swear that I will never buy a Cherry Mobile product again. https://fbcdn-sphotos-d-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-xfp1/v/t1.0-9/10407216_1015376*****64625_3152235257176316798_n.jpg?oh=3d654bf6261e343446ad28b322748965&oe=55261B77&__gda__=1430571794_0a2e9412ece477ef6ce04cbaed0a9bc3

Does this have SIM and is a proper standalone phone like the G1 or just a smartwatch that needs to be paired with a smartphone?

This is better than the o+ time. Will wait for the full review.. I want to know if you can see the display even under direct sunlight, how long will one full charge last, and the acciracy of the pedometer. Wala ba talagang accelerometer ito? Sana yung G3 ay android wear na ang OS.
