Launched just yesterday, Smart WiFi is a new broadband internet service which allows users to get connected wirelessly thru Smart’s cell sites. The only thing you need is an outdoor antenna to serve as transceiver on any of Smart’s hundreds of cell sites nationwide.
Maximum bandwidth is up to around 128kbps and promo price starts at Php788/month. It’s an easy and affordable alternative if you don’t have phone lines in the neighborhood. This is gonna be a big hit once they find a way to bring access down to handhelds and portable devices (read: Tungsten T5 & Life Drive).

@ too late:
linksys is okay, wrt54g to be exact. however certain units have been proven to be defective and there have been many returns to their stores of origin (i’m not saying that all have this problem). make sure you’re using the latest firmware. what do you need a wireless router for? to use the wifi features you need a wlan on your pc or laptop. on the other hand there are also 4 available wired ports on the device so you can use them as well. as to the setup, it’s simply easy. run the cd first then follow the onscreen instructions. i ‘ve done it before so i can say that it’s fairly easy. i’ve also tried the linksys access point and it’s okay too. tell me how it goes, okay?
“hey magz, ask ko lang kung paano, i connect yung wireless router?, im planning to buy one, choices are linksys and zyxel, parang mahirap i-configure? tnx
anyways, right now my connection is about 50 kbps, di na yata tama ito, im from pque”

Linksys ang marerecommend ko sau, aside sa may Technical Support sila dito sa Pilipinas (i don’t know with zyxel), madali din syang i-configure.
I recommend Linksys talaga. But of course in order to use the benefits of its wireless connection, you have to have wireless LAN card.

Tama kayo.
They don’t deserve your attention,hehehehe
Peace to all….
oh yeah!! ala na kong FUCKING smart wifi!! yeah!! hehehe di ako pinagbayad ng pre termination fees wakoko pota 15 thousand cnisingil sakin gago b sila palpak n nga serbisyo magbabayad p ko ng malaki. i just pay this month current bill and it cost only 760.91 dahil may rebate ako. wahahah GUDBYE FUCKING WIFI!! HOPE na MA CURSE company nyo!! wee for those who want mai waive yung pretermination fess wag kau matakot just follow my previous message. wag kau PAAPI sa mga taong BUWAYA!! tc ^_^
Mga guys tama si “nash of bicutan, taguig”, see my post 1908.
Yung pagiging grounded ng computer na naka-shut-down na yun ay nakaka-apekto sa signal ng antenna, dahil from that computer the current may flow thru the wires, to the router, and maybe to the antenna. Advise ko lang, either panatilihing bukas ang AVR kahit patay ang computer para di grounded, or if you want to shut the AVR down, tanggalin ang plug ng AVR sa wall outlet.
For details on why or how this happens or affect the antenna/bandwidth, I don’t know. But I did some testing kaya I know na may epekto talaga, hehehe.
Sana naintindihan nyo. Thanks.
i hope sana makatulong to kht konti.. =>

2 years contract yung lock in sulit nman kc bihira lng masira yung network. ang mahal lng yung instalation it cost P2500. heres the link http://www.cis.ph/netvantage.htm well digitel is powered by mozcom and ala sa digitel site yung adsl and nandun eh yung dsl nila na mas mahal. but i guarantee di kau magsisi kc stable yung network nya. but i heard that some plan 128kbps have problems. kung gusto nyo mag inquire about their services go to the nearest digitel center and ask for ADSL NETVANTAGE. yung ibang center may promo depende sa location. yung samin d2 sa bulacan still have promo

gaano katagal lock-in? pwede ba data line lang?
wala parin pagbabago smart hangang ngayon although I’m getting decent speeds, its still unreliable.. ayaw ko na magcomplain, sawa na ako.. Sa June tapos na lock-in period ko so kaunting tiis nalang.

smart wifi uses IEEE 802.3 10BaseT,
wi-fi, wlan use 802.11b/g
bluetooth uses 802.12
regarding security issues:
“A high Level of Security: The Meridian Network utilizes comprehensive security measures, including a licensed frequency band and a frequency-hopping spread-spectrum (FHSS) technology which switches frequencies for every data transmission to prevent data interception. Our Subscriber unit encryption and the routed system architecture ensure that data is delivered straight to the appropriate recipient.
”
ok naman wi fi namin dito sa bulacan, konti palang kase siguro ang subscribers, pero the speed is really burstable to 400+KBpS, average is 300, i also experienced poor Technical Support.
pero, so far, ayos pa sakin toh…. i’ll be switching to Digitel DSL 512KBPS anytime soon,
if im not mistaken nasa 1500 lang 512kbps ng digitel.. cheapest among dsl providers
Subscribers are in danger of having their security compromised:

whoops… nakita ko na e-mail address nya, i might ask him some questions about his location, connection, etc… anyway, just one question, is SMART WiFi really WiFi? I mean, is it really IEEE 802.11b? From what I heard, it’s not. hmmm… makes you wonder about the article…
pasensya na ha… pero it sounds very fishy… rigged kaya? does anyone have an e-mail address of the person who wrote that article???
